- How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
- I first heard about this through Dan's free podcast, which I learned about through Dave Ramsey. I'm hoping to gain access to a group of individuals, including Dan himself, who may help me learn the best way to launch my first entrepreneurial start-up and create a successful home based business.
- What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
- I'm currently employed as an optometrist in a private practice setting.
- And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
- I do enjoy my career as an optometrist, but I feel as if a part of me is missing. I've had to become so scientific and factual with this line of work that I feel my creative side has been all but snuffed out. When I was younger I loved reading, writing, drawing and photography. I loved spending hours outside and taking in the beauty of the world around me and enjoying the quiet and solitude of nature. Now I spend my days in a dark little room with no windows. I don't want to leave my career, but I would like to create more balance in my life allowing time to soak up the sunlight and nurture the creative side of me.
- How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
- I'm also working Dave Ramsey's debt snowball (and considering my significant student loan debt) as much as I'd love to cut back on my employment days per week, in order to do so successfully I would need to create supplemental income outside of my employment. I have a desire to try something entrepreneurial but want to start in something outside of my current career. My dream as a child was to be a photographer for National Geographic, or at least have one of my photographs published in their magazine. So to start I'd like to create a gallery out of the vast collection of nature photographs I've created over the years and offer these images for sale in various sizes to customers. I've also thought about compiling a "coffee-table book" which would highlight collections of my work. In addition I would like to donate a percentage of my profits to a nature conservation organization in order to give back and protect that which I enjoy the most.
- What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
- I know I can be extremely creative in writing and photographic composition if I allow myself to grow in that area again. I'm also very detail oriented and love the planning process of creating something - unfortunately almost to the point of perfectionism. I'll plan and plan and plan, but have a difficult time taking action until I feel that something is as perfect as it can get. I'm also poor in sales, marketing, and advertising which I know are incredibly important in the type of business I wish to create. As an introverted person I feel very uncomfortable trying to pressure someone into a sale, even if I truly believe in the product.

Continue Whack-A-Mole

Who remembers playing this game? You take a giant hammer (or mouse pointer in the digital age) and hit each mole that pops out of a hole back down into it. As soon as you hit one down another pops up somewhere else. Over and over. Pop! Whack! Pop! Whack! Pop! If you are lucky enough you get them all, but then they start popping up in multiple places at the same time and eventually you either succeed, or you miss too many and the game is over.

If there is one thing I have learned about life, it is that it gets complicated. There is a never ending to-do list, the pressure of feeling like you have to measure up to something, and drama that comes with family, friends and other social connections.
Luckily the older I have gotten the more I have learned to forgive myself and focus on priorities and what makes me happy. That may sound selfish, but if I am not happy then I certainly will not be able to take care of anyone else…

This weekend has been incredibly windy in the Northeast. Those of you who know me personally and have been to my house know that I have a living room full of large windows and a very curious cat named Achi. Any time there is a windy day, he spends it crouched low in front of the windows looking out at the various things blowing by – leaves, snow, dust, etc. He crouches low, running from one view to the next, trying hard to “stalk” the “prey” outside.
