Why Do So Many People Die Soon After Retirement?

In a recent podcast my friend Dan Miller talked about retirement and what that means for most people.I wanted to sum up a few points that are very applicable to my coaching clients, but the link is below if you like to listen to the entire thing. He encourages people to have a 25 year plan that includes life beyond retirement.Build a life with courage and not one of ease. Most retirees say they want a life that's stress free and predictable. Most of the time that just turns into a life that's…See More

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I've been lucky enough to be a part of this group for many years, even prior to the 212 Connection.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Dr. David Powers is a Cultural Architect, combining the worlds of futurist, informationist, and counselor into one. Considered a human puzzlemaster, he has a penchant for assembling random bits and bytes into workable solutions. He's a best-selling author in the areas of cognitive psychology, experimental education theory, and martial arts. He's a decorated veteran of the Marine Corps, Army, and a founding member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. As a professional model and actor he has appeared in film, fashion shows, and even comic books. Married and the proud father of three feral boys and one princess that he and his wife homeschool, his mission in life is to find the magical best mug of coffee in the world.
Be sure to check him out at drdavidpowers.com.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
My goal is to create the financial freedom to enjoy life the way we want to while my 4 kids are still young.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I'm still working on climbing the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. 2 down, only 5 to go.
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I am wired for organization. God said in 1Corinthians 14:40, "Let all things be done decently and in order."

Are You Utilizing Small Teams in Your Business?

Posted on February 21, 2017 at 12:38pm 0 Comments

The notion of small team leadership isn't new by any stretch, as you can see from the image below that comes from a decades old military manual.

After its successful use in recent years by special operations troops, many businesses, government entities, and even churches are seeing its benefits and practical applications.

Are you currently working with a small team concept?

Have you tried small teams in the past?

Do you know which one of the…

What does getting punched in the face have to do with goals?

Posted on February 14, 2017 at 6:54am 1 Comment

In case you haven't been checking in with them or didn't know, every Friday here at my office is Facepunch Friday. It's the day we celebrate proper goal-setting in the face of adversity.

Because goal-setting often involves change and plans gone awry, that's why we highlight the facepunch, in honor of the famous Mike Tyson quote...

Your goals will likely never go according to plan, so that's why we plan for the problems. Here at the office we call…

Best Teambuilding Movies?

Posted on February 7, 2017 at 8:26am 0 Comments

I need some input from you on the best teambuilding movies out there. I'd love to get some ideas from you before I put together a poll to vote on the top ten.

My only caveat is that it has to be at least a small team and not a couple. For small team I'd go with 5 or more.

Here's some ideas from my end...

  • Oceans 11 series
  • Uncommon Valor
  • Expendables
  • Ronin
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • Mission:…

There's No Reason to Quit a Uniformed Job if You Don't Want To

Posted on February 1, 2017 at 7:04am 0 Comments

It doesn't matter if you're a cop, EMT, firefighter, or a soldier. There may come a time when an injury, a boss, or the bureaucracy try to force you out. They may very well do it, too.

  • Disability hearing goes the wrong way.
  • All of a sudden you're not promotable.
  • The new chief wants a younger guy in your position.

There are a million reasons you may get booted, but it doesn't mean you have to leave uniformed service if you don't…

How Much Money Did Your Business Make in the First Month of the Year? Mine Made...

How wide open are you with your business and your numbers? How wide open do you need to be?

I just finished up an awesomely productive three days with Ryan McRae of ADHD Nerd. I profiled him recently in one of my Success Stories. We worked on a lot of things. I kept him on track a little and helped him escape to the Hot Chocolatier…

Hi Dr. Dave (as I've heard you called), please call me William. It's a pleasure to connect with you and I will also say I enjoyed your guest blog post last week on Dan's website. I used to be one to follow the rules, but have come to realize that making positive and dramatic shifts in one's life requires your methodology - ie: breaking many rules!

Good luck on the weight loss. My day J-O-B has created a sedentary environment where I have added 20-25 #'s in the last 2 years. Definitely want to break that habit as well as the bad habit of being an employee. ;)

I sat next to you at the Nov. seminar. I just joined this website and wondered what you have to say about it.I love the scripture you listed regarding all things done decently and in order. It hit home with me because I know all things are in perfect and devine order so I am still waiting. I am still searching for the work I love.
