Bulding a Body of Work,,,

In our creative lives, there will be creations that will connect and others that don’t. There will be some with mass appeal and others that do nothing more than help us express something that is deep inside is and screaming to get out. Please remember there is good in all of it. Consider the music business. We all know about the one hit wonders. You know a band that writes one song that connects and then they fade away. In the world of albums, (and I know I am showing my age here) we sometimes…See More

Who Inspired You?

Sometimes as we work in our gifting, it's important to look at how it began. When did you first discover your love of what it is that you do? Who encouraged you and who helped you become who you are?For me a couple people come to mind. My Nana, Beatrice Steininger was among the first to ever put a crayon in my hand. I don't know how old I was, but I am sure I was younger than the package recommended. As I grew, she gave me a multitude of gifts and flea market finds. I remember the oil paint set…See More

Guns 'N Roses and The Importance of Being Nice

Okay, another confession. I really like Guns 'N Roses, like a lot. Now in these post-salvation, preacher days, I would do without some of the imagery and content, but the music is pretty great. Axl's unique voice and insane range with Slash's amazing guitar work and one of the strongest rhythm sections of their day made them hard not to like. They could do it all. That moment in Paradise city where the whistle blows and the guitars charge in is a musical moment like few bands could muster. That…See More

Thanksgiving... It's About A Lot More Than Turkey

Well its almost the day. A day some people call turkey day and while I do plan on eating a decent amount of turkey, you'll never hear me call it that. It's Thanksgiving. Some people say it's the day when the Pilgrims thanked the Native Americans for helping them to survive in the new world, that's not even close. Oh I have no doubt they were grateful and it seems they blessed their new neighbors with a feast, but their Thanksgiving was to God. Thanksgiving is a day about God and our gratitude…See More

I Voted... Now What?

Well I got up this morning and did my civic duty. I have to admit, I can't recall a time when I was less excited to cast a vote. I felt like this time the two major parties gave me a choice akin to "Would you rather have nausea or (how would Sheldon Cooper say it?) digestive distress?" Nonetheless, those were my choices and I had to choose.I can almost hear someone screaming "What about a third party?" I'd love a viable third party, but the third parties have got to get their collective acts…See More
