With layoffs coming more regularly, I am getting more questions on what should you do if you fear you may not have a job tomorrow. I thought I'd share some wisdom and hope for those who fear unemployment may be around the corner. Here are some of the practical tips I have been sharing with my clients and others who need some encouragement. A good defense is always your best offense.
Each step is part of a bigger plan of personal growth:
Step 1: Update your… Continue

I know some folks here on 48Days are CPAs, tax folks, and all that.
Just want to give a recommendation to my tax guys; I am a raving fan of theirs.
It is a big firm in a small town. They are the largest, single-office tax prep place in the nation...in little ole Smiths Grove, KY (Just north of Bowling Green).
Their contact info is:

A question in an email followed by an applicable Shakespeare quote , and relevant supporting statements of evidence made me ask myself , What if there never was a God to create this world?
What if His only son were never given for our salvation ? What if He never were crucified ? How much would these events change the history we learn? Or the history that we now are participles of ?
What if there never were a Noah to build an Ark?
What if there were no Moses to lead Israel out… Continue

This is the power of focus. It brings all of your gifts and talents to bear on an idea or strategy just waiting to be discovered.
We've all heard the story of the circus lion being subdued by the legs of a stool waved in front of him. He cannot decide which leg to focus on so it leaves him powerless. Without decision the lion cannot unleash his power. To think that a manipulated inanimate object can hold this ferocious animal at bay is amazing. He doesn't realize that choosing any… Continue

God made this day . We can't change it by complaining . What has happened is part of the past , now will be the past as you read this , all we can pray to change is the future . Now is all that we have and all that we can do is accept it , and make the best of it ,and greet the future when we get there .
Worrying or fearing it only wastes the energy and other essentials that we need to greet and embrace it, and bars God from entering our hearts to guide us through it .
We live… Continue

How many of you watch the news, read the papers, or listen to the radio? Boy! The media sure is doing a good job of scaring we Americans! This is quite frustrating to me because, unfortunately, many of us do not know how to read between the lines. The media does not give their unbiased opinions on ANYTHING! They have their own agendas as well. Did you know that the media will drive their stories based on the political candidate that they are supporting? Believe it or not, a lot of people do not… Continue

I just changed my name on this website. I was Peggy Flint - but I decided that since I usually go by Peg Flint - and I feel more comfortable with the name Peg - I would simply change my name.
It was easy...go to the settings page...take off a couple of letters...hit save - and wow - suddenly I'm a different person.
WHY ISN'T LIFE THIS EASY???? WHY CAN'T I JUST WAVE A MAGIC WAND - KISS THE PERFECT FROG - OR FIND THE POT AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW....AND CHANGE MY… Continue

Yesterday I discussed the financial results of the bailout. It may have been eye opening for you to see what little effect the first $350 billion dollars had on the seven largest banking institutions. The federal government has been swift to act, but will it work? Let’s recap some of the moves the fed has made to revive the economy:
1.Acquired Bear Stern’s toxic assets to facilitate JP Morgan takeover
2.Loaned billions to AIG to prevent its… Continue

My happy place just got a little happier. I was in Costco the other day and first was encouraged that spring indeed IS coming: The bathing suits are back. Some people use calendars….I use the merchandise cycles at Costco to observe the coming and going of the seasons
And then there’s my beloved book table. This is best enjoyed with a good cup of joe. Thankfully, there’s a Barnes and Noble (my other happy place) right next door so I can load up with a good cup first.
I was… Continue

The word recession is not a bad word. It can be especially meaningful to a cancer patient who is told that their cancer is in remission. The two words are different but have similar connotations. It is a good thing when a disease pathology is on a reverse course.
More specifically recession means a decline; to recede in an economic or financial sense. In a choice between spiritual poverty and material poverty, hands down we would choose or rather be spiritually poor. We fear material… Continue

There is a haunting song that I've heard on the radio lately and it frequently goes through my head. It was at the end of one of Denzel Washington's movies (Fallen)
- as the good guy lay dying and you see the villain is going to win - and the song goes, "Time...is on my side." It is a song by the Rolling Stones.
There is something about the way it is sung in the movie though - that it haunts me "Time is on my side"....I guess you'd have to hear it.
The thing… Continue

I have recently started working on my first eBook. The subject is how to save money on medications. When I am done I will be giving it away for free to anyone who goes to my website PharmerDon.com
and signs up for the free newsletter. I would like to use a couple of real life examples in my book so I will try and help you or someone you know save money. Let me know here and we will review your specifics in private.

A little over a week ago we had a freak snowstorm here in North Carolina. Four inches later, all the kids in the neighborhood were in their yards sledding on trashcan lids and using beach toys to gather up the white stuff for snowballs. Some of the kids had never seen snow, but they all wanted to build snowmen.
The first step to building a snowman is gathering up that chunk of snow that you can start rolling across the ground. The more you roll, the bigger the ball gets. Before you… Continue

You were created to succeed!!! God has given each of us gifts, talents, and we were made in His image so He could be glorified in and through our lives. God wants you to have influence so that He can influence others through you. Success gives you influence. Money gives you influence. And influence gives you a platform to impart truth to others.
Men who have the power to set the course and direction of a city will look to successful people for advice, not to those with a struggling… Continue

The Bailout Bust?
As the Obama administration develops new proposals to help rescue the banking system that could cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars beyond the $700 billion bailout Congress already has approved. Let’s examine what the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) has done for the financial sector.
How was the first $350 billion spent and was it successful? Where will the next $350 billion go?
Where’d it Go?
Here is some of the… Continue

Yep, I know silly question. Such is my brain to ponder random questions. Of course hens don’t have to learn how to lay eggs….they’re hens! The doing arises from their being.
Same for our kids. We spend so much time insisting that they DO things before we’ve evaluated WHO is my child? But yet in our culture, conformity is the rule of the day. All children must meet THESE standards and if they don’t….they’re defective. And we must remedy their weaknesses!
Bear with my cheeky… Continue

As I mentioned in my last blog post - there are times when the well just runs dry...when you're out of spiritual, emotional and physical energy and you just can't keep on going on like you were.
Fortunately for me - yesterday - the words started coming back. I needed that - the ability to write again.
But I was still tired and I still had a lot on my mind -like the job interview this morning for a job I REALLY want.
I got home after an awesome… Continue

If you are like me you have been looking for ways to cut costs and preserve your bottom line. Just don’t let too much cutting destroy a different kind of “bottom.”
One of the “line items” that is often eliminated is the gym membership. If you are not using it, then by all means get rid of it. But, if you are using it, let me share with you three reasons why cutting that may not be a good idea.
1. Relieve stress.
In this economy and trying economic times, a… Continue

I can't decide on where to focus.
Real-estate, photography, or something else?
I want to multiply my cash and use minimal time.
Real estate would take some time, and a decent amount of capital right now.
Photography would take some time, but less capital.
Other? Focus on inventing / creating / marketing. Bigger gains if it would work. More time than money needed now.
It seems like Real Estate has good timing now. Hmmm....
