On Monday evening I was with my nephews. In my food blog they are often referred to as Sous Chef Sam & Sous Chef Jesse. They love to cook with me and also have a deep love of finding great restaurants. We were hungry and I said that I saw a place advertising Garlic Burgers and Bleu Bacon Burgers. There is nothing like a good burger to hit the spot.
Driving to the restaurant, I drove a route that I rarely take. As I turned into the parking lot, I saw that it was a Bar. What? It never looked like this from the other side of the street. They did have those burgers advertised but also a big sign that read "You Must Be 21 to Enter." Sous Chef Sam is 18 and Sous Chef Jesse 15. There would be no Garlic or Bleu Bacon Burgers for us that evening.
This was a great lesson to me. Often we look at things from one perspective. I had always passed this place while driving on the other side of the road. A small coffee hut had blocked much of my view. I expected it to be a certain way and it was not.
I have learned so much about myself and gained valuable insights from great books such as "Wisdom meets Passion." With this, I am embracing those times when things don't go as planned. Did we give up and go home? No, we did some research and found another great burger joint.
Sometimes the best things in life come from things not working out as we had planned.
Sincerely,
Jeff David

Thank you Lesley, Even in the past few days I have had to look for alternative options to something that I had my heart set on.

Thanks Karen, I really appreciate you. By the way, I have received so many compliments, so many "that's awesome" regarding the article you wrote about me following my passion. Thanks a million.
Comment by Karen Putz on October 30, 2012 at 9:00am Jeff-- what an amazing quote from you! "Sometimes the best things in life come from things not working out as we had planned." Reminds me of Garth Brook's song, Unanswered Prayers.
Thanks Pete, I did smuggle them into a food show once. It was quite a feat.
As soon as you know your schedule, we will plan to hit a burger joint.
Jeff
Comment by Peter A Ferguson on October 25, 2012 at 4:57pm I was hoping you were going to write about creativity and how you smuggled them into the bar!
Let's do a burger joint the first full week in November? I am waiting on some travel plans to formalize, but I'll know better next week what is feasible.
Great post. I need to move along in Wisdom, I'm only on chapter 2.

Thanks Ann, It's been a long time coming for me to learn this lesson.
Thanks again,
Jeff
