I believe unemployment is none other than someone’s state of mind. When you say you’re unemployed, you are saying you’re dependent upon someone giving you a job.
Yes, it is the talk of dependency when we’re relying on others to label our societal status because we don’t work for a company.

I don’t work for a company but yet I’m not unemployed. To say I’m unemployed would place me at a common status. I am not common, and neither should anyone be.
To be unemployed just means you don’t believe in above average opportunities; it means your settling into mediocre thinking and it means you’re a worker of the masses with no work.
You’re not unemployed! You are never unemployed unless you give in to the societal labeling. Everyone is given a clean slate to work from whether you’re working, out of work, just starting a business or have nothing at all we all have a clean slate to work from right now.
That clean slate is opportunity.
There is always an opportunity to develop something new, build something unique, create something fascinating, experience something beyond imagining, but we’re never unemployed.
We all just have opportunity, and we’re all sitting on a gold mine.
To say that you’re unemployed just means you’re sitting on tarnished metal refusing to recognize the value of what’s right in front of you.
Open your eyes; get off that labeling and start creating your future.

Comment by Rob Clinton on September 4, 2012 at 12:11pm Thanks Don... I love the perspective that all of us are exactly where each of us are supposed to be right now, as much as all of us have an opportunity to move forward right now.
Comment by Don Roulo on September 3, 2012 at 8:06pm Rob...love the reminder that we really are never "unemployed" if we are moving in some direction towards something new or just changing our direction a bit. It really can be a time of SUPER CHARGING your battery and creativity.
Its just like being in an office and working on a project. Not only do you "do" the work of a specific project, but you also take the time to plan it and make sure you have all the resources you need to complete the project. You even take time to reflect, or debrief, after a project to see what could have been done better and what worked well. This is still "work" or part of your "employment."
This is the same as taking some time to do all those same things about you and your life and career. You now have the time to plan, look at internal and external resources. You now have the time to reflect on what you have done in the past...what you have done well and what you can improve on. It is still part of being "employed", but you are just in a different phase of that employment.
Great job Rob!
