Most evenings I take my dogs to the elementary school in my neighborhood to run around and get some exercise. In the last few weeks I've been admiring a leafless oak tree on the property. Observing the marvelous hues of the sunset through barren branches has been a beautiful sight to behold. Yet it took several visits before it dawned on me the tree was dead. Dead, but not without purpose because birds still lighted upon it to find rest. That was true on Monday, but not today, Tuesday, because the tree was cut down. And though this evening's sunset was just as beautiful, it wasn't the same. The tree that had been there for decades, maybe even generations, is now gone and I wonder will anyone other than myself remember it.
In the past couple of weeks two men past away who brought a great deal of laughter and leadership into my life:
Andy Griffith, Actor Stephen Covey, Leadership Expert
Both gentlemen found their callings and offered them to the world. Millions of lives have been changed for the better because they were not willing to remain as seeds, but decided to burst out of their shells, release their potential, and become strong trees that allowed us to light upon their branches. They made their mark in the world and showed us how you leave a legacy.
