In one of My favorite epsiodes of the Twilight Zone an old Professor has just been informed that he is no longer wanted to teach so he ponders over his life and wonders if he made a difference. He concludes sadly that his life was pointless and didn't matter. He took a walk and seen a statue with the following inscription:" Be Ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity". He becomes distraught and decides to Kill himself. The Ghosts of previous students come to tell him about what an inspiration he was to them. They told him how he taught them about Courage and Honor and other things. Finally, He feels better and decides not to kill himself. One thing that is importnant in life is to find meaning to what one does and to feel that one 's life has a purpose. I think there are two lessons involved here, the first is to tell those peope who contributed to one's life that they mattered and to show genuine appreciation. The next is to examine one's own life to determine what one's values are and how to meet them. No one should come to the end of their life and feel it was meaningless. Maybe a person can contribute through a business or through other activities. Notice I said contribute and not giving back. Giving back implies something was taken and undeserved and contribtution is something freely given not of an obligation but, of a spirit of generosity. This is just something to think about as you make your way through the world. Please see my blog post titled "I Woud Be True" it has an inspirational poem I learned about from that episode and I hope you will enjoy it.
