Okay, that may be a corny title, but let me take a moment to dive a little deeper into the idea of what it means to go beyond self through attending and doing ‘anything’ self-help related. It’s one the most important pieces in our personal and professional growth process. We can say we want to be better at something, but we need to define what being better at something means. Where do we focus our energy and priorities?
We have major balancing points in our life, and one of them is personal development. We should understand that we have a mind for a reason, and that it was meant to be fed and deliver information. Even if you’re not in school, your education never stops. You are always increasing your mind potential if you allow it to happen. Remembering that education never stops - even after you graduate - could mean all the difference in your success. So the question I’m asking is this; If life were the same in 5 years as it is now, and nothing changed, would that be okay? Most of us, will say no to that question. Most of us, and if I dare to say all of us want something. What is it that you “really” want, and what are you willing to do to get there?
“Five years from now you will be pretty much the same as you are today except for two things: the books you read and the people you get close to.” ~Charles ‘Tremendous’ Jones
Did you know that the average millionaire attends at least 1-3 motivational workshops a year, and reads at least 1 non-fiction self-help book a month? I know what you’re thinking. Yeah that’s because those people have the money to do those things. Well, on the contrary I’m going to challenge that statement by letting you know that most of millionaires got to their place in life because they invested in their growth. Regardless of their circumstances, they were motivated by some passion to excel beyond circumstances that were not going to derail them in their quest. Most millionaires in America are first generation born? Meaning, they did not inherit any fortune. Most of them came from the ground up and worked hard to get to where they are at.
So what does this tell you? It means that there is definitely hope and a HUGE chance for success! You CAN be a millionaire, and you CAN find peace and fulfillment in the work that you do. But we have to truly want this success.
You know, I always talk about planning, and setting goals in your life to get somewhere you want to be and work backwards from their. Work backwards until you know what you need to be doing today to get started. If there are certain milestones to include in your plan, then make some of them appointments to attend self-help seminars. They are just as important - if not more - in you putting together your business plan.
If you want to grow, and if you want to succeed, define what that means to you and lay out a game plan and in the process seek out the things that will help you get there. On a different but parallel scale, if you compared your personal development to the basic needs of your life, you will discover that it’s just like the vital importance of putting food on the table. If you don’t have food on the table, what are willing to do to get that food on the table and into your body?
