Have you read the news story about the guy who broke into someone's home to make a chicken pot pie?

He had a goal, worked out most of the steps except for one, a very crucial one, that got him arrested.

Some goal setting tips....

The biggest tip....the very first thing....

DREAM!

Somewhere along the way....we start limiting our dreams....we find a bunch of reasons why something can't be done.  People tell us to be realistic and blah, blah, blah.

Our "dreams" go from inventing, traveling, and making a difference to picking up the dry cleaning, doing laundry and going by the grocery store.

Of course those tasks need to be done and they can be daily goals but what I'm talking about are BIG goals, BIG dreams.

Big to you goals...something that you want....that is important to you.  Something that stirs your heart, makes you gaze off into space as you think of it.

  • Getting out of debt
  • Losing weight
  • Being self-employed
  • Learning to dance

Something that you say, "I wish I knew", "I wish I could" or "I want" to.

So, take a few minutes, don't think about how.

The first step in setting goals....figuring out something YOU want, something YOU would like to try.

Setting a goal that is socially popular, that is what you think others want you to do...won't work.

In order to achieve your goal, your goal has to motivate YOU.

What are your dreams?

Imagine your perfect day or year...what would they look like?

Have a dreamy day!

Hey Lynn,

I'm so glad you enjoyed the post and aren't ignoring the callings you have!  That is great!

I think your picture is awesome, and, the important thing is....you do too!

Keep pushing for your dreams....they are already coming true!!

I love this post... I've really been thinking a lot about such things lately.  I'm a pretty new empty-nester, and I've noticed that dreams and callings I had when I was in my early twenties are starting to percolate to the surface once again.  I'm trying not to ignore them - they range from the spiritual (I'd been praying for a door to open for the chance to work with a local children's home in a meaningful way - and it recently did)...to work life (still finding my way through that one! That's why I'm here on 48Days)...to seizing the chance when it recently presented itself to start riding (a childhood passion that I never had the chance to do).

In fact, that's why I chose that rather silly profile picture...I'm no equestrian, and it's not particularly flattering,  but I love that picture because of what it represents to me-

I love this post, Lisa - and I LOVE imagining my perfect day or year!  I spent some time this weekend doing that and I have a vision that inspires me.  Thanks for the encouragement.  Looking forward to the next step.
