More Reasons To Slow Down (i.e. Rushing is Hurting More Than You Realize)

Previously I wrote about…

  • What’s the Rush? In Praise of Slowing Down. If you missed it, you can read it here
  • Then I wrote: The Real Reason You are Rushing May Surprise You. If you missed it, you can read it here

Today I will share another big reason to slow down.

With your bulging schedule you have cut out time for reflective thinking and serendipity.

I can almost hear a collective “so what?” Let me assure you, this is big. It has been so long since you’ve taken time for reflection, you don’t see how big of a loss it truly is. When was the last time you:

  • Spent time daydreaming?
  • Spontaneously wandered into a place that wasn’t an appointment on your calendar?
  • Spent time reflecting on your life – where you are and where you want to be?

Talking about this only goes so far. The only way you can truly see how big of a loss this is, is to take time for reflection and serendipity and see for yourself. Do something spontaneous and see how it feels and what you experience. Spend time in reflective thought and notice what happens.

Spend time doing these things and I am confident you will be pleasantly surprised. Time spent on reflective thinking and spontaneity will yield big dividends. As a result, you will:

  • Be less stressed
  • Notice connections between ideas, problems and people that you never noticed before
  • Re-discover your innate creativity
  • Increase your problem-solving ability
  • Get more done

Slow down to re-connect with this part of yourself that you have lost.  I challenge you to try it. I would love to hear what you experience from giving this a try.
