If you are familiar with my posts here and in my free weekly newsletter, you know I strongly urge people to avoid fast foods, packaged and processed foods and to eat as many clean, whole, fresh foods as possible for overall better health as well as for weight loss.
When people are trying to lose weight, they many times make such drastic cuts in the amount of food they eat that they get so hungry, they end up on a binge. If you are familiar with myToday’s the Day Seven Week Fitness Plan you know I believe any “diet” that is overly restrictive will end up in failure. I also try and help people make the best choices available to them if they must eat out occasionally.
There are several reasons I prefer home cooked meals. One is that you have complete control over the quality, preparation and amount. Quality is critical because most restaurants don’t serve green-fed, green-finished beef, wild caught fish and organic vegetables. Those chemicals in and on the food are stored in your body fat and make losing weight that much more difficult.
The other reason is best explained by way of this illustration. A picture is definitely worth a thousand words!
Are you surprised at the difference in the size of a prepared 300 calorie meal or food and one you make yourself?

Comment by Deborah W. Wilson on February 19, 2013 at 7:18pm Those pictures were amazing. I feel cleaner inside when I eat at home. When you get used to that, eating out is not a treat. I don't care for the heavy feel of most restaurant meals.

Comment by Adam Rico on February 18, 2013 at 4:33pm Wow Ann, those pictures of 300 calorie meals are powerful. Um, I'll take the ones on the left any day. Thanks for reminding us of the better choice.
Comment by Nate Schubick on February 18, 2013 at 3:52pm home cooked and in season is tops!!!! canned spinach is nasty while fresh is wonderful. Grass fed organic beef is so much better, I agree!
