I have implemented something in my life this summer called Empowerment Fridays. I take my Friday mornings and dedicate them to success principles. It started off as kind of a joke because I found myself so eagerly anticipating Dan Miller's podcast on Fridays that I kept checking back at the website over and over. Sometimes the podcast posting would be delayed so I began looking for other ways to inspire myself as I waited for Dan. I found Michael Bernard Beckwith's weekly show on KPFK Fridays at 1:00 p.m. to be just as inspiring, although his focus is more on spirituality. I then began scouring YouTube looking for other material. One Friday I spent half the day this way, just listening to and reading positive success materials. I am a full time student with Fridays off so I could do this.
I felt so good and so motivated that it became a weekly thing. School starts back soon, so I will have to modify my time, but I am keeping Empowerment Fridays. I am in school to embark on a new career in fine art and commercial music so I need the motivation to find my unique voice and stand out in the crowd. This coming year is my last year of full time study so it is extra important that I direct my energies in a meaningful way. What better way to do this than to learn from wise men and women who are already living their dreams and are generously sharing with others how to do the same thing.
I am extremely grateful for people like Dan Miller and all the others who have produced wonderful books and materials that teach from what they know. I don't have an in-person mentor at this time but these men and women (people like Dan Miller, Jim Rohn, Michael Bernard Beckwith, Robert Kiyosaki, Eknath Easwaran, Brian Tracy, Marianne Williamson, and others) are my mentors and my teachers.
Embarking on a second career is not an easy thing but I am so happy I have taken on this challenge. I am even happier that I don't have to do it alone. I have examples in the form of people who have successfully transformed their lives and freely give of their wisdom to others. When I "make it" (as defined by me), I hope to be able to do the same and freely give of what I've learned to others. I think Empowerment Fridays are the beginning of something really terrific!
