College A Scam Question:
Asking if College was a scam, the writer of that question had some real concerns. She had attended 3 years but still had around 2 more years to go because of career uncertainties. Members of the particular forum were all over the map as to their opinions.
Overall, statistics prove that college degrees do improve earning power over a lifetime. Yet perhaps the question should be how college is attended.
One of my concerns is that there are only a few methods of attending college presented by those encouraging college attendance.
For years the onsite campus was all that was available. Then came satellite campuses. Now online college is a viable choice.
Yet it was just recently I heard about CLEP as a way to obtain a college degree faster and cheaper. In fact I was surprised to learn over 2900 accredited colleges and universities offered the CLEP alternative. CLEP allows students to test out of basic courses and receive credit for the course as if they had attended classes the traditional way.
CLEP As A College Attendance Option:
One Christian organization that has taken the CLEP concept a step farther is CollegePlus (Yes, that is a referral link that may provide income to me). Basically, their approach is to help college students identify their purpose first, then provide training in skills needed to test out of college courses through the CLEP process, focusing upon helping students attend college quickly and cheaply, without huge college loan debt.
If you have questions about attending college, concerns about the negative influences of college life, or just want to see a totally unique way of attending college without huge dept, I encourage you to explore CollegePlus.
