"Wheaties, the breakfast of champions!"

Do you remember these great commercials when you were a kid? I do. I can picture the signature orange box with such greats as Bruce Jenner, Mary Lou Retton, and Muhammad Ali smack dab on the front cover. Didn't these champions want to make you start off your day right so you could be a champion to? It did me, no matter how soggy the cereal got with milk!

Parents are similar to what Wheaties are to champions. The time we invest in our kids will fuel them into adulthood.

My challenge to you as parents is to determine what ingredients you are filling your kids with by your examples. Are you living your life out with intentional purpose in the areas that mean the most to you? Or are you putting short term fillers in your life that fill your time, but don't add to the nutrients to help your kids grow such excessive TV, internet surfing, and/or video games?

Here are 3 tips to fuel your kids for success:

  1. Live your life by example - as parents, the way we LIVE our lives speaks louder than our words.
  2. Encourage them individually, not by your own selfish dreams. Each child is wired uniquely, take the time to figure it out and then work with their strengths to help them grow.
  3. Let them fail at the little things so they build strength to succeed at the big things in life.

Question: What nutrients of success are you feeding your children? Are you a Wheatie's parent or are you more like the John Belushi Little Mini Chocolate Donuts parent?

Ann,

What a great statement:
"We need to nourish them spirit, soul and body."

So true!!!!

It amazes me how much our kids pick up on just observing. In fact, I have even heard our 2 year Remy say "awesome" when asked how is he doing. I never "taught" him that specifically, he just picked it up. Pretty hilarious!

Thanks Ann.

Great tips Jen!  And I wholeheartedly agree - what we do as parents speaks volumes to our children and they often follow what we do rather than what we say (just another reason to walk the talk!!).  We need to nourish them spirit, soul and body.
