We Finally Cut the Land Line!

I've been after my wife to get rid of our land line for years. I'd point out how many of our freinds had, but that didn't seem to matter. Her defense was always something about phone reliability and 911 calls.

The logic never made any sense to me and eventually I'd drop it. However.... periodically I'd hear her complain about no one ever calls anymore, or all we get is tele marketers. I'd bring up my solution but again to no avail.

Recently she was looking up an…

Republican or Democrat?

I saw an article the other day that said 90% of us are the same but we focus on the differences. I wondered, can that be true? With all the various church groups I thought , it could be! However with the recent political news, could that apply? I am not a person that follows or studies that much in the political world. I know what I know and while I seek wisdom I'm not fed from that arena. However I wonder, how many people are registered one way or the other and know why, or know the…

Who's teaching who? 5 things I've learned

I've always enjoyed learning. I recall in grade school enjoying spelling. We had a workbook that I took home and completed the entire years work in a week.

Unfortunately I hit a time when I didn't feel it was so important. I think it was late 8th grade early 9th. Girls caught my eye and sports.…

Polar Bear Elevator Pitch

That's an odd title for what I'm about to say but let me explain. Last night I volunteered to be a judge at a local college where students work in small teams a make a presentation to a panel of 3 judges, 1 student, 1 faculty, 1 business.

There were nearly 100 teams and the 10 panels all picked the best of what they saw. Then the ten winners went up against each other in the second round and determined a winner. I'd say it's similar to Shark Tank without any money. You are just…

I wish I were better!!

I'd written a while back about blogs and their popularity or lack thereof. I got some good advice from people who write whether anyone reads or comments or not. Writers write because it's what they do.

I wanted to share the story I find myself sharing more than any other so it has to be good, right?…

Do My Actions Matter?

I'm sure we'd all say a resounding yes to that question. But do we live our lives in such a way that proves it?

For me I'm all about an intentional life, finding my calling, living it, breathing it, sharing it. I believe everything we do matters. I really enjoyed Andy Andrews "The Butterfly Effect".

I further buy in how all aspects of our life tie in together. Family, relationships, health, career, finance, personal development, fun, and faith. When one area is lacking it can…

Why do we Blog?

I had some time on my hands and did a little research on the history of my blogs.

My first blog was 9/18/12 some 874 days ago. I've written 32 till now, so today makes 33. Tim Sherfy has written that many in the last 33 days. ( I realize that is a challenge )

I realize many, if not most of you have a business or a website or both. You tie in your thoughts around those in order to educate the rest of us, and share your own wisdom. If you have a product to buy hopefully we'll…

Stuff, Better Stuff, Different Stuff, and Purpose

I'm not sure if you get Success magazine or not but the Jan issue has an interview with Jack Canfield, (the cd). One story he shared told of a rich acquaintance. He described his life in 4 stages. The 1st being stuff, we work to acquire a house, car, maybe a boat, in his case even a plane. The 2nd stage …

I'm right, or you're wrong, ( does it matter )

A couple days ago my wife was attempting to get her friend to agree to going for a walk. They couldn't get their schedules together so I volunteered to take her place. We've walked together before but I can tell she'd rather go walking with her walking partner.

We started out and her pace was almost that of a speed walker. I kept up but lagging. About 8-10 minutes in, her pace had slowed measurably, so I thought. As I was now the pace setter I asked if she was ok, it seems like you've…

A Million Miles in a Thousand Yeras

I just finished this book in the last week and asked my wife to read it as well. Usually I enjoy more fact type publications and most likely would never have started this except for a comment I read somewhere. A person raved about how it changed their life in some amazing ways.

Once I started, I knew it wasn't my style. I enjoy underlining while reading and didn't find myself doing that much. However the writing style was humorous and easy reading so I kept on hoping there would be…

Devotions, do you read them? do they speak to you?

I'm sure most of you read devotions, maybe several. I enjoy them and read about 4-5 daily. It's interesting the way an author can take text that I've read hundreds of times and put a twist on it that hits me right between the eyes. That is surely a skill or is it? …

Good Bye my friend

Today I made the decision to put down my trusted friend of 13 1/2 years, my dog Red. He was a golden retriever, the 3rd we've enjoyed in my adult years. Red came along while one of my sons was away at college and the other was a 16 year old in high school. In many ways that made him more of my dog than the first two.…

Consider - Commit 8 things to consider, and then some!

I've just finished my first season as a boys high school golf coach. At one point during the season I came up with these 2 words for them to think about before hitting any shot. The same applies to life.

In golf, you Consider, the lie, how the ball is laying, in high grass or tightly mown grass, this has a huge effect on the outcome. Next you may consider wind, downwind, in your face, or crosswind. Consider, elevation changes,…

If you could choose the way you die, what would you choose? quick, or you've got 6 months to live!

This probably sounds morbid to some but let me explain. I've heard people say, when it's my time to go, I hope it happens in my sleep, or it's sudden, quick etc.

Usually I've heard that from someone who has been around an aging parent or grandparent and had to watch them die. I recall a preacher who once preached a sermon on, there are worse things than death!

Many times a person might say this because they don't want to be a burden on anyone, let alone the…

In Golf as in Life, It's the Follow thru that Counts!

A passion of mine for some time has been golf. There are many life lessons I've learned from the game and have been fortunate to share with others. I was recently named head coach of the boys golf team at our local high school and am doing a sports camp next week at our local church camp.

You see many swings on the golf course but the one that is probably the most flawed is a lack of follow thru. If a person doesn't…

Truth is truth, but History is what's recorded!

I read this in a book written by Andy Andrews some time ago and find myself often coming back to it. So much so that I turned it into a Sunday School lesson the past 2 weeks and need another week to finish.

In Andy's book, How do you kill 11 million people, he takes you back to the Holocaust, and explains as only he can exactly how it was done. The short answer is you Lie to them!

Without giving you all the details let me share a short story that happened years ago in my work…

Quality versus Quantity?

We've all heard this comparison time and again. Usually it's an excuse when we can't give the time to something important, many times our children, we'll justify it saying, well it's quality not quantity. Once I heard someone say would you accept that with your steak. Imagine you pay $30 for a choice steak but when it's delivered to your table it's one bite. The waiter says it's the best bite you'll ever have! Does that make a difference?

I heard an interesting take…

1.21 Jigawatts ( A true story ) you’ve gotta see this picture

April 27th 2011. My  3 rd anniversary of me my car getting struck by lightning while I was in it. Let me take you back to that morning………………

I’m driving to work in a thunderstorm. Upon arriving I pull in at the sports center ( a workout facility our company maintains for employees ). It’s 5:00 am. I’m thinking to myself, do I make a run for it or wait awhile?

Within moments  of   trying to decide, lightning strikes.  I’m not sure where …

Do you have Green Hair??

I share this story in a class I teach and thought it was relevant to share to all. It made me realize when someone tells me something I may not want to hear, the best way to know it might be for my own good is when the hairs start to stand up on the back of my neck. Read on...

Hurt feelings between people can be very upsetting. How should you respond when someone comes to you complaining about being put down, or insulted by…

What makes a memory? Hint, it's not about the money-

In a recent book I read the author suggested thinking about all your Christmas gifts since childhood. How many could you remember? Probably a handful at best. Now think of experiences you enjoyed, any better luck recalling a few of those?

For me I reflect back on many nature walks my 2 sons took while growing up. The three of us accompanied by our dog always, and sometimes my wife, their mom. We'd always take snacks, and be gone for hours. There was an abandoned railroad…
