Hello and thanks for visiting The DADvocate project. I intend to publish a book about dads by dads. You can read more below. I have also created a video to help introduce the project. Basically I'm looking for 1000 or more dads or wan-a-be dads to complete this survey. If you have kids or if you think you want to have kids in the next year or so then this survey is for you. The survey is completely anonymous unless you request to receive email updates about the survey or you choose to be in the… Continue

We have decided to do the Rhizotomy this coming summer and have tentatively scheduled it for late may. As I mentioned in my previous post Rhizotomy - Surgery is never an easy answer, surgery is never an easy answer. We saw Haley's orthopedist today and he explained that the surgery will help make it easier for Haley to get around, run, an not get so tired after she has gone through the healing process, but it is likely…Continue
A few days ago I met a new friend online over at Copyblogger. His name is Josh Hanagarne and he had written a post - What I Learned From Writing 42 Guest Posts in 7 Weeks. In the blog Josh reveals he has Tourette's and he basically took on the challenge to help him focus outside himself for a while.… Continue

You may know Gary already he is the Wine guy that tastes everything. He is also a maven of social media. In this blog I'm going to quickly toss you over to him so you can see why he says the rules of the 1950's, small towns and in my words "Neighborhood's" are becoming important again. Don't forget the conversations at your "Neighborhood Barber's Shop" either. Now go visit… Continue

Last week we covered an overview of local search and how to register with the local feature of each of the big three search engines. If you want a review on how to register see: Google, Yahoo, Bing.
Today we'll discuss other local search directories. These directories provide a large amount of… Continue
As a reader of this blog you know I have ADD and I've occasionally referenced how it impacts my current abilities but for the most part I reference how my experiences with it and my dyslexia give me a perspective on raising my daughter with special needs. Unfortunately lately my ADD has really kicked in. I've noticed over the years that during some periods in life my ADD tendencies are much stronger than others. The last time I had trouble was about 10 years ago and I went on Aderal for about 6… Continue
Jake's where everybody who walks in is a "Legend." Jake's is still a central point in the small town where I grew up in NEPA, that is North East Pennsylvania for those who are un-initiated and pronounced Nee-Pa. If you walk into Jake's on a Saturday all the men in town will be there talking about sports, friends, politics and business. Everyone who walks in… Continue
As I've been developing out my blog and my business service offering over the last few days I realized that there are two components to my strategy and I almost focused on the wrong one. All the other blogs I've written so far are correct and technically accurate. People of solid business minds who know this stuff will argue over different aspects or… Continue

While we haven't yet covered social media in the Web Marketing strategy for small local business I had a good case study occur recently.
My friend Bill William is a business broker here in East Cobb. He owns a Murphy's business brokers franchise. He has been networking locally for at least the last two years which is as long as I've known him and he also uses LinkedIn. Bill was offered an excellent opportunity to sell a franchise locally and he wanted to let folks know about the… Continue

The other day my wife and I were heatedly discussing something. I sometimes have a bad habit of using potty words. While I'm not as bad as some I'm certainly no angle when it comes to this indiscretion.
Interestingly my oldest daughter has always understood that potty words are bad. She hardly experimented with them as a younger child and when she did it was in front of my mother-in-law when she thought she would be safe. Luckily disappointment pretty much aims Haley in the right… Continue
In Saturday mornings post I mentioned that I would provide an instructional video for registering with Google local. You can find the video at www.MetzgerBusiness.com

Local search is a fast easy and free way to ensure your business is findable on the web. The major sites that provide local search are Google, Yahoo and now Bing. They all have their own sing up method and none are difficult to complete. The local search feature will not drive huge amounts of traffic to your site but it's an important first step. The local search registration will be… Continue
I'll soon be addressing an organization about social networking. Most everyone in the organization has small businesses that serve the local market. Many are in real estate, financial advisors, mortgage brokers, carpet cleaning, catering, and other truly local businesses. They don't need a national audience and they don't need to spend… Continue
