Want a Little Business A`La Carte?

One of my friends is a bit compulsive about any food presented to her.She often prefers any liquid foods to be a’la carte. Whether a gravy, sauce or type of condiment, she simply enjoys having those items on the side rather than on top or mixed in with her meal.

Many people prefer to start or even keep a business that way.

They are perhaps employed full or part-time as an employee and want to start a business but…

My New Rescue Dog and the Picture in Your Mind

This has been a week of mixed emotions for me.On Monday we said “Good-bye” to the Weimaraner we rescued more than 12 years ago.He truly was an amazing animal and one I bonded with completely.Everything about this week has been bittersweet.

Tomorrow we will arrive to meet our new special boy and take him back to his now furever home.I am anxious, excited and scared.I hope that the picture of what comes next in my mind will come to pass.

That’s what it is like to dream about…

Creating a Relevant Business

There are countless new businesses opening daily.I live in Georgia, which was once again ranked the #1 place to start a business in the country(WOOHOO!).But there is no hiding the fact that 96% (YIKES!) of …

Five Things You Should Do JUST FOR YOURSELF

The country artist, Toby Keith sang a little ditty a few years ago which included the words;

“I wanna talk about me

Wanna talk about I

Wanna talk about number one

Oh my me my

What I think, what I like, what I know, what I want, what I see…”

Sounds selfish doesn’t it? But I think frequently we fail to recognize the important things we need to do in our…

What About Your Show?

When a baseball player first gets to the major leagues, he is welcomed to the “show”. The phrase,”You’re going to the show” often signifies a move up into a truly professional league, whether baseball, hockey or basketball.

Years of practice, hard work, commitment and discipline finally pay off with an opportunity to show off skills at the highest platform.

Players in all sports dream of the day they get to the “show”.…

You Had Me at Merlot, I Know...So, Let's Go.

Yes, I know, that’s not what SHE SAID.

She also never said, “You had me at “Van Gogh” or at “Bordeaux”.  But I bet the headline caught your eye and you just had to take a look and now you’re thinking, “Wait, this is not going to be about wine and good times at all.”

Wait…Stop! It is!! Well, it is going to be about whiners which agreed, is nothing like fine wine, but if you leave you’ll miss the part where the party begins and everyone likes a good party, so…

Are You An Entrepreneur Having a Fling or Commitment?

After giving a presentation to a group of business owners last week, I was not surprised to find that some entrepreneurs attending had thriving, prosperous businesses while others were struggling just to make ends meet.

There are a few obvious red flags that separate the successes from the ones struggling and if you are an entrepreneur, it might be helpful to know what those…

Just How Hungry are You?

Have you ever sat down to a meal and said, ” I’m so hungry I could eat a _____?”  When you are that hungry, you often will eat whatever is available. If you are eating in a restaurant, you may order more than typical because you just want some food. Sometimes you will choose something that may not be exceptionally appealing but will satisfy the hunger you are experiencing.

When I am coaching clients, I often discover many are very hungry for whatever they can grab onto to help them…

Are You an Entrepreneur Whose Business Needs Glasses?

Most entrepreneurs dream big dreams and have great visions for their business.I think that is wonderful and wouldn’t want it any other way.I love to work with entrepreneurs who don’t give up after a setback and are committed to making their business a success.

But sometimes entrepreneurs miss the details and the subtleties that impact their businesses. They might dedicate every minute to working on their…

Everyone Goofs...Even Smart Business Owners

Did you watch the Academy Awards a few nights ago? Everyone is talking about how unfortunate it was to have announced the wrong winner for the Best Picture. It was unfortunate, but certainly not devastating, because everyone goofs sometime.

Of course, no one wants to wear egg on their face in public but I think it is a sign of transparency and just being human when we make a mistake, own up to it, and ask forgiveness if it has offended anyone. In fact, I tend to trust people who are…

It Seemed Like A Good Idea at the Time

We’ve all been in that place where what seemed like a good idea at the time ended up being one we regretted later.

I was looking…

I Want to Stop Being a Witch

“I don’t just want to stop being an employee, she volunteered. I want to stop being a witch.”

That’s what a new client said as we discussed what she wanted to do with her future. She has given me permission to share her comment but I am sure she is really saying what many people are thinking.

You see, when you are in a soul sucking job; one with a toxic environment, or a boss who is a narcissist or maybe one that makes you feel like someone you hardly recognize, it’s likely you…

It's About Time and that Dream Job!

Let’s face it. It is about time. It’s always about time. It never fails when I work with clients, they often say “It’s about time” but WHY they say it often separates those who are committed and those who are still making excuses.

Where Are You On the About Time Spectrum?

I can always tell when I speak with a client who really wants nothing more than to change the direction of their career. They are all about doing whatever it takes to make that dream happen and even when it…

The Curse of Next Year Will Be Different

So, you think next year will be different…AGAIN?

Everyone starts out with a level playing field but only those with the best strategies reach the most success.

One loss, one false move, one wrong decision and the chance to have it all might have to wait until “Next Year”. Well, that’s true of college football anyway.

I love college football. I love…

What Waiting Really Costs You

I hate to be the bearer of news that might frighten you, but if you are like most people. you are most likely not even remotely thinking of Christmas until at least after Thanksgiving, even though as I am typing this blog post, you have less than 50 days (Yikes!) to decorate, purchase and wrap gifts, bake, and plan your holiday get-togethers.

Okay, that is only the beginning of the news that might get your heart in a tizzy.

Ever wait to purchase something (toys, tickets to an…

The Sweet Spot of Success

Unless you live under a rock, you know who Oprah Winfrey, Michael Phelps, Serena Williams, Leonardo DiCaprio and Michael Hyatt are. They are all the best at what they do. But, they didn’t get to that sweet spot without help. Everyone of them had a coach who helped them reach their potential…EVERY ONE!

Sure, there are successful people who have never had any type of coach, but to really be the best…

Damage Control for Your Business

No, I’m not planning to talk about the recent political fallout. I’m talking about the type of Damage Control needed when a business looks more like a sinking ship.

Please don’t get me wrong. Nobody plans a wreck. No one wants to cause damage but sometimes it happens and when it does if you don’t control the bleeding there can be a fatality and a business with potential will die.

I love to work with clients helping them grow thriving businesses. Moving someone from an ordinary…

When Your Selling isn't Gelling

You're really NOT in a productive business if you are not selling anything. Even a not for profit, must "sell" it's benefits to contributors in order to fund raise. For any business, whether with a product or service, to be successful it must make sales and when that selling isn't gelling, there is a problem.

Sometimes the problem is obvious; maybe the business owner really isn't visible, available or promoting a business that is easy to access, maybe the business is…

When A Struggling Business Needs First Aid

Remember when you were a small child and a toy broke? What did you often do? You most likely brought the toy to someone and asked, "Can you fix this?"  You needed first aid for your toy. Or,when either your feelings or your body had an injury, maybe you…
