you have a sales plan that gets referrals from a "no"
you have a sales plan where a "no" gets you somewhere
you have a sales plan that knows a "no" is teaching you something
Do you even have a sales plan?

There are two ways to look at the cost of spam.
Costs me nothing to ask and a few will say yes, so its worth it.
Every conversation is a journey. Each interaction builds on the prior interaction. Every time you touch someone in the outside world it costs you something and it costs them something.
How you answer the question will effect everything.

Lots of people say they'd like to be an entrepreneur, but society puts up barriers so most adults just go out and get a job. This results in people who don't think they have what it takes to be a business owner. But, if you've ever tried to get a job you've tried to sell your services...and that's what an entrepreneur (or freelancer) does
Seth Godin said recently at a WSJ… Continue

This is why everyone should have a professional photographer like Deby
do their picture.
On a serious note, in today's social networking world you'll be using a profile picture in lots of places. It's really helpful to have one that looks great. It doesn't have to be a stuffy suit and tie head shot, but it helps if the picture looks… Continue

That's the slogan of Saddleback Leather Company. They sell really expensive leather bags and when you visit their website, I promise you'll want one.
Dave, the owner, is a master story teller. From the 100 year warranty (that doesn't cover creases from elephants)...to the hilarious videos, every page of… Continue

For those of you who haven't seen the classic Christmas tale It's a Wonderful Life
, starring Jimmy Stewart, I hope this post motivates you to rent it...it's well worth watching.
It's the story of a man who's lost all hope and has reached the end of his rope. He decides to end his life and is interrupted by having to save someone else's life instead. This someone turns out to be an angel who then proceeds to take him on a journey to see what the world would have been… Continue

I've had some questions about inserting images into a blog post.
I created a screencast that'll show you how to do this step by step.
to go to the screencast (then click on the "play" button...its the triangle on its side in the middle of the big picture).
Its important to make sure that you are using this tool to do it on the toolbar when you are… Continue

Actually this post has nothing (and everything) to do with why Kevin is so good at what he does...I was just trying to get your attention and having trouble coming up with a great blog post title.
I recently received a great question from Kevin Miller:
So at any social network, like ours, what everyone wants ultimately is...attention. They want:
Members to their group
Comments to their blogs and discussions and… Continue

In a remarkable move sure to make Tribes
one of the best selling audio books ever, Seth Godin announced today that his new book, Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us
, is available as an UNABRIDGED audiobook on iTunes for less than a dollar.
He went on to say, "The souvenir, dead tree, printed hardcover
edition is easier to take to the beach (Amazon
As I mentioned in… Continue

I avoid moderation at all costs (I don't moderate any content on any of the social networks I manage, my facebook page, blog comments...none of it).
The only reason you'd moderate is to stop people saying crazy things or posting inappropriate content.
The problem with moderating is that it makes your good users feel like you don't trust them...don't you love the way they compare your receipt to what's in your cart at Sam's Club as if you're trying to steal from… Continue

I've just finished reading a pre-release copy of Seth Godin's new book, Tribes: We Need You To Lead Us
. I think it may be the most important book I've read this decade.
In his usual, easy to read, conversational style, Seth provides a manifesto outlining a new type of heretical leadership.
As I read through the book I found myself highlighting pretty much the whole… Continue

New marketing is all about conversations...not the “conversation” where you, the marketer, shout out your message
to as many people as possible, but the conversation where your customers are talking to their contacts about your company.
The first conversation is the conversation that's happening some place else.
Right now, if you have any market saturation at all, people are talking about your company. They may be saying… Continue
