Mastermind Group

LI have been reading about the Mastermind Concept of Napoleon Hill. According TO Hill in " The Law Of Success" A mastermind is created through the blending of two or more minds Out of that the harmonious blending of the group a third mind is born which is a collective mind. Hill believed each individual could contact and tap into the subconscious mind of the others and that there was an infinite intelligence, an Ethernet which contained all of the thoughts throughout history. It was…

How much is a smile Worth?

 I read a story about a man who lived in the Netherlands many years ago. h was deformed and grotesque and most people would not even look at him the lone exception was one young woman who always smiled at him. Years later the man died and nobody knew it but the man had considerable wealth and ,he left everything to the one person who treated him with kindness who was the young woman who smiled at him .

The Salesmen who Went the Extra Mile.

This is a story told about a young salesmen many years ago and it was under the heading of going the extra mile. It was raining one day and an elderly lady went into a furniture store and the experienced salesmen knew they were not going to make a sale to her ,so they passed her off to a young inexperienced salesman. As expected she told the young man she was not there to buy on this day. His attitude toward her did not change and he was courteous and kind to her. A while later the  woman…

A Zig Ziglar Anecdote

Zig Ziglar tells of how his group was having a workshop and went out to dinner that night and decided to put something they learned into practice. Their waiter was an excellent server, He was polite and attentive without becoming familiar and they were  impressed with him. Each of them wrote a sentence on a piece of paper about the man, something like I like John because. They left it at the table and after they left the restaurant the waiter appeared and as Zig put it he broke down and He…

Follow The Process

I have been reading some criticisms of Goal setting recently and some seemed valid such as a long term goal can, be anxiety provoking  all or nothing,too futuristic and not enough present orientation. In an article James Clear (www.jamesclear.com) wrote he believes it is best to forget about goal setting and focus on the process. That means concentrating on the journey not the destination. I am not advocating throwing out goal setting entirely because…

I first learned of personal coaching a number of years ago. I got a letter form an organization headed by a motivational speaker whose name you would likely recognize if I gave it. The Representative said the problem with Motivatonal tapes is there is no accountability present. I also thought that it sounded like a  good possibility. The price for this coaching was pretty steep. This Rep. gave me a spiel  about a homeless Man who sold aluminum cans to pay for his coaching. i became…

Does It take a Daredevil to be an Entreprenuer

 True Entrepreneurs seem to have certain traits and one of them is Risk Taking. Richard Branson is well known for his Adventures and in on one of  them He almost got killed.  I have heard that even Bill Gates has a risky side to him. I was thinking about this when I was having a discussion with an old friend who used to be a "Bad Boy" when he was a Teenager .He loved  fast cars and racing them. He did not become an Entrepreneur and that is not the point. Obviously racing is a risky venture…

MyTen Most Memorable SHark Tank Pitches

 It was not easy but I have chosen 10 pitches to highlight  as my favorites and 3 Honorable mentions from Shark Tank.

!. TOM And CHEE  A  gourmet Grilled Cheese and tomato soup Restaurant. I don't care too much for the foood categories but the 2 guys from Ohio had something a little different. Restaurants have a high failure rate but;they were doing alright ande were confident they could franchise their idea and they already had one or more Franchisees.

2. CHORD BUDDY This was…

My Shark Tank Honorable Mentions

COAT CHEX  A business student came up with this idea for a High tech system for checking coats at bars etc.I love the innovation but, one of the problems with it is that its seasonal as the sharks pointed out.

E-Creamery   I like the idea of personalized Ice cream and they do have customers. the problem with this one is that it is so cost prohibitive. If I spent a lot of money on something like ths I would want a commemorative container.  I can imagine if the wasn't a problem that…

A Tale of 2 Sandwich Shops

There are 2 Sandwich shop franchises of the same company and  the same distance from where I live but, I prefer one to the other. One has the line running back to front and th eother froont to back. That is really no biig  deal although it does makei it  a little confusing. As I  was going through the line at the one  I like least there were 3 people ahead of me but the workers seemed harried and to be honest it made me feel a little stressed. The sandwich maker aske d if I wanted it toasted…

In Search OF Creativity

 Creativity is a topic I have beeen interested in for a while. It is the desire to find new ideas and new ways of doing things. In my reading I have discovered that ideas are associations of existing ideas and there is no truly unique ideas. that have not been thought of before. From the Book "Brainsteering" I have gotten  the power of questions. You have to be able to come up with good and unique questions to benefit from this. Your mind can only answer the questions for which it already…

One of the ideas for shaping a person's behavior is Behavioral contracts. Ideally there should be at least one other person to hold you accountable and better still a group who is working on goals. It might look something like this.

Effective Dates  present to about 6 weeks or whatever the time frame needed.

Then you can get specific about the behaviors which migtl look like this

IF I perform the behavior THEN I can receive the  reward.

It is important to do this…

School Shooting

Yeserday another sensless shooting occured at an elementary school in a place called NewTown ,Connecticut. 7 people were killed including the perpetrator.. I saw where there have been 84 people killed in these violent actions this year.It does not shock me so much any more that this kind of thing happens.  It is sad that this trajedy will be exploited and I think it is unfortunate that it will be exploited politically.  I know that it goes much deeper than the issue of Guns. It is about the…

Here is a tip that I heard came from Jerry Seinfeld originally. One of the most important things a writer needs to do is write and to be consisitent. The idea is to get a calendar and every day you write you mark a big RED X on that day's date. You continue and you try not to lbreak the change. It will be your natural tendency not to want to break the chain. Of course it became obvious to me how a person could use this technique for a number of other things besides writing. I think this is…

 Even if you don't need  a whole new Business Concept  Creativity can be useful for marketing Advertising and a host of other things. I enjoy reading books on the subject of creativity and I will share with you some I know about. "THINK INSIDE THE BOX is one that is available from www.earlytorise.com .It was a bit expensive andthe drawback is you need to have a partial Base or idea with which to begin. BRAINWORKS is another book that can help by…

The Changing Of The Guard

In one of My favorite epsiodes of the Twilight Zone an old Professor has just been informed that he is no longer wanted to teach so he ponders over his life and wonders if he made a difference. He concludes sadly that his life was pointless and didn't matter. He took a walk and seen a statue with the following inscription:"  Be Ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity". He becomes distraught and decides to Kill himself. The Ghosts of previous students come to tell him…

                                            I WOULD BE TRUE

         I would be true, for there are those who trust me;

         I would be pure,for there are those who care;

         I would be strong for there is much to suffer;

         I would be brave,for there is much to dare.:

       I would be friend of all-- the foe, the friendless;

       I would be giving and forget the…

Social Media VS. Free Speech

We have heard the stories about the employee who called in sick and posted photos of himself Drunk while he  was supposed to have been illl,  getting fired. I decided to see what kinds of things have gotten people fired from Facebook. Many things, such as the above mentioned were expected but,it also turns out that people can be fired for content the employer doesn't like. It could be political stories or anything that shows a political leaning or expresses an opinion. I even read of one…
