     This I believe: Pain is a symptom of something-gone-wrong. Only by accepting it and getting through it can we know when the condition causing it has been healed. Ongoing attempts to mask pain or avoid it (whether by drugs, denial, or diversions) lead to one or both of two things: A-- never going through the process of healing, or B-- a state of being wherein one never knows if the original problem is still a problem--or not.
