What Are You Attached To?

Dan surprised me with a gift of a book he thought I might enjoy reading because it tied into what I am writing about these days.  It's called Happier At Home by Gretchen Rubin.  This morning I was reading about the importance of possessions. We are all familiar with the "Money can't buy happiness!" phrase that people extol when referring to someone's materialistic attitude.  Rubin agrees with that truth and so do I.  However, she goes on to talk about all the things…

Find your missing peace.

I am not one to tell you who or what you need to believe in. By belief, I am referring to our higher power. For someone like me who has a tendency to want to control situations, believing in a higher power relinquishes me from trying to get involved in every detail of mine and others lives.

It has been a long road for me to give up trying to fix everything and everyone around me, but I’m glad I did. For one thing, it’s exhausting. The second thing is, it steals your peace. I am now…

There are times when we have to have surgery and we really don’t want to feel the pain. We want to be numb. We want to feel as little discomfort as possible. So we are given heavy medications to either put us asleep or make us numb to the pain. We have to be careful about wanting to be numb all through life and avoiding pain. When we try to avoid pain and discomfort in life we are going to discover that we aren’t really doing anything at all. We are simply taking up space.

Life has…

Stuck in a rut? Five ideas that will pry you free.

There once was a man who, in his mid-20’s, found himself dug into a trench; doing the same type of work for roughly the same day’s pay, for six straight years.

An older man, a man who would later become his mentor, walked up to him and asked,”How come…

I'm already overwhelmed and it's only Monday!

Are you feeling the pressure of looming deadlines at home and at work?

School is right around the corner, and you haven't even thought about supplies or clothes for the kids.

Your next project or the boss's additional request lands on your desk and weighs heavily on your heart as it joins the precariously stacked mountain of must-do's.

You sigh, and wonder what it would be like not to be overwhelmed, to actually enjoy a bit of breathing room—margin—in your…
