Jewel sang a song about Hands. “My hands are small, I know, but they are not yours, they are my own.” I used to play it over and over. It seemed to speak to me.
Recently, while riding in the car, I noticed a finger on one hand was hurting from a small cut I incurred while chopping carrots for a hearty chicken soup. At the same time, I noticed my other hand smarting from a burn I received soon after the cut, while removing two fragrant quiches from the oven. Those tiny aches made me…Continue

The average millionaire reads at least one nonfiction book per month. And while reading books is not the only reason for their success, it’s certainly a major contributor!
Let’s face it- you don’t know what you don’t know. If you have no information about how to achieve your goals and change your life for the better, you just continue to drift aimlessly, never achieving much of…Continue
When I got home I had a conversation with a close friend on the phone. She had gone through breast cancer several years before. She asked me if I had been afraid before going in to surgery. I hadn’t really thought about it until she asked. I was afraid when I was home wondering what was wrong with me, not…Continue
This was a truly fascinating article on Dr. Mercola’s site talking about the real cause of heart attacks. We constantly hear about the dangers of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity. In truth, balance is the…Continue
Dan surprised me with a gift of a book he thought I might enjoy reading because it tied into what I am writing about these days. It's called Happier At Home by Gretchen Rubin. This morning I was reading about the importance of possessions. We are all familiar with the "Money can't buy happiness!" phrase that people extol when referring to someone's materialistic attitude. Rubin agrees with that truth and so do I. However, she goes on to talk about all the things…Continue

I am not one to tell you who or what you need to believe in. By belief, I am referring to our higher power. For someone like me who has a tendency to want to control situations, believing in a higher power relinquishes me from trying to get involved in every detail of mine and others lives.
It has been a long road for me to give up trying to fix everything and everyone around me, but I’m glad I did. For one thing, it’s exhausting. The second thing is, it steals your peace. I am now…Continue

There are times when we have to have surgery and we really don’t want to feel the pain. We want to be numb. We want to feel as little discomfort as possible. So we are given heavy medications to either put us asleep or make us numb to the pain. We have to be careful about wanting to be numb all through life and avoiding pain. When we try to avoid pain and discomfort in life we are going to discover that we aren’t really doing anything at all. We are simply taking up space.
