It's My Pleasure

During the rush of the season I am often reminded of this quote from Dr. Martin Luther King. “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven will pause to say, 'There lived a great street sweeper who did his job well'."

I am reminded of this quote because I am intrigued that so many people in the…

GREEN Tip of the Day November 30, 2010

Even when you have a house full of party guests for Christmas/holidays (or any occasion), suddenly the TV is a dead spot in the room when normally it's the center of attention...When this happens, simply pop a movie into the DVD player with the sound on mute...For the holidays, play a Christmas classic movie, or a scary movie for a Halloween party...For an evening with friends, how about movies from your teenage years or your friends' favorites...And if it's a birthday party,…

Surprising "Entrepreneurial" Things Your Parents Do In Retirement

My mother has become an entrepreneur and is selling on the internet. To most people that wouldn't be a surprise until you learn that my mom doesn't have a computer, nor has she ever used one (she is 73). So when… Continue

The Glow

My passion, as I have discovered, is to those who need encouragement in the area of self-esteem. I have a special passion to minister to single adults, as well. I have decided to follow my heart and start writing encouraging words as the Lord leads. Here is my first installment. I hope it blesses someone.

Children from the Island of the Misfit Toys

Does your child not “fit in?” My first response to such a situation is, “BRAVO! Your child doesn’t fit in!”

But I know that in our conformity driven culture, this is not a celebrated trait. Rather, not fitting in is a source of much angst and shame. It’s sort of like your child is from the Island of the Misfit Toys.

And if you have a child with ADD/ADHD this issue can be more painful. These kids in particular don’t fit into any box… Continue

Do not have any wisdom? Get some NOW!

I ran into my financial mess because I thought I was doing the right thing for our family.

The key being “I”. I even discounted my wife’s input.

For all the men who are reading this: Do not discount

what your wives are saying. They have an innate sense that we do not

have.....I am thoroughly convinced of this!!!

I surrounded myself with people who agreed with me, never looking for the opposite view.

GREEN Tip of the Day November 28, 2010

Instead of purchasing gifts this Christmas/holiday season, how about creating an "experience" such as inviting a friend over for an afternoon of coffee and conversation in front of the fire...Or teach kids/grandkids/nieces/nephews an age appropriate skill such as cooking, sewing, crafting, woodworking, gardening, fishing etc...Create an "experience" and a lifetime of memories!

Your memory is the enemy. (And file folders are a close second.) Get thee a db.

Too many people rely on their memory, file folders, and sticky notes when trying to start up a business, whether that business is a full-time endeavor with teammates or an after-hours side thing for now.

Businesses need to keep track of lots of information -- leads and clients and the status of each, things to do, products, orders, appointments, marketing promotions and results, time sheets, inventory, employee records, and on and on. If you don't have a good system in your business to… Continue

How Can I Help?

You'll notice the best wait staff asks questions the right way. Instead of asking "would you like dessert?", they ask "what can I bring you for dessert?".

"Are you ready to order?" becomes, "what would you like to eat?".

It taps into something psychological that we humans have. Guys, especially, don't like to ask for directions. I'm a guy. Don't ask me if I need if I need help.

I frequently ask people, "how can I help?". When…
