“Happy is the man who can make a living by his hobby.” – George Bernard Shaw in “Pygmalion”

It is called the Pygmalion effect and it’s a fact: If you expect the worst, you get it. Thoughts are not just insubstantial bits of information that enter our minds and fade away into the ether; thoughts are concrete things. Our words, ideas, and beliefs shape our daily lives. So get out of victim mode. You are worthy. Your dreams are within your reach. Imagine positive situations with happy… Continue

Do You Know What Video Games Your Kids Are Playing?

Now...that Black Friday is here, Christmas and the gift giving season is officially upon us! My whole mission in life is help others incorporate their values, beliefs, and faith into their spending, giving, savings, and wealth building areas of life. So when I come across information that is helpful in one of these areas, I will pass it along as quickly as I can.

I came across a guide that I thought I would share with everyone.… Continue

Happy Thanksgiving from One Friend to Another!

We all have so much to be thankful for!

My wife got a call last Thursday that her father would be undergoing quintuple heart bypass surgery. We loaded up the crew and headed for Mississippi. He came home today in good spirits and as healthy as you can be after that type of surgery. We are thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for him and we're thankful for the successful surgery.

We all have many things to be thankful for even in this time of economic… Continue

This site is GREAT!!! I stumbled on it by accident today even though I am very familiar with Dan's work. I can't wait to meet some new people and really start fulfilling the life that I know God intended for me to live, not the one that I have settled for. WooHoooooo!!!!

If you start a business you should never have a partner unless it is your spouse. When you have a partner you are increasing your chances of failure and the risk of being sued. Your partner may not work as hard as you do. They might have a bad addiction to drugs or alcohol, or go through a divorce. His or her 16-year-old kid could crash into someone while driving and now a lawsuit could take your business. You would… Continue

She's NOT "Smarter Than a 5th Grader"!

Watch this story about a woman who recently won $1,000,000 on a gameshow called "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" She may have proved to be smarter on the show but now she's filed for bankruptcy because she co-signed on her husband's business loans that are now defaulting to the tune of $3.5 million. She sites the tough housing market for her husband's "small business" having so much debt. That's a mighty LARGE debt for a "small" business.…

Peace on Earth and In Our Hearts

Peace and Blessings to you this Holiday Season!

Earlier I was pondering the upcoming season and thinking about all that is before us: All the baking and cooking, all the shopping and wrapping and decorating, all the cleaning and preparing that is needed during this time. It’s such a wonderful time of the year. And yet it gets so hectic sometimes, and dare I say it, “Stressful”!

A co-worker of mine who is Jewish and doesn’t even celebrate the Birth of Christ or Christmas in… Continue

Be a thankful boss - Write a letter to your employee's parents!

I have now done this twice in my career and I cannot tell you how heartfelt and sincere a practice that it is. Once done, the rewards of appreciation and loyalty can be very deep and long lasting.

The idea was presented to me in a seminar over ten years ago. That was the first time. I made the time to get the contact information and then to write a letter to each immediate employee's parents. I wanted them to know how thankful I was in being able to work with their child. I listed… Continue

The Curse of the Lottery Winner?

“Winning isn't everything, but wanting to win is”.

Vince Lombardi

This post isn't about the morality of gambling, but rather about what happens when you come into a windfall of money - whether it is from an inheritance, sale of a business, a big break, or winning the lottery. If you cannot handle money responsibility before you have a windfall, chances are you will not be able to handle money afterwards. What are you doing to prepare? Like the farmer who prepares the field… Continue

The big spoiler.

This weekend we started a class or as I like to call it a time of discussion at our church. The class is focusing on God's purpose for us and how he has and is creating each of us for his purpose. As I prepared my notes for this class a thought so simple came to me. Millons of words have been writen about this topic and many dollars made on the sales of resources surrounding this topic and it boils down to a really simple thing. Each person has the same purpose. All of us are created for one… Continue

No Love for the "Big 3" - a poor business model.

Most of the public response for "our" government to help bail out the "Big 3" automakers is - let them sink or swim. It amazes me why the main media and the "Big 3" are surprised or appalled by this response. Perception is reality, there is no love for these manufacturers.

Could it be that the majority of the public hears of the outrageous earnings of the employees...earning thousands more than the average income while not working very hard and having numerous… Continue

Fireproof Your Business by Starting a Fire

Ask any Hollywood veteran and they will tell you it takes a miracle for a low-budget movie to make it into theaters. Alex and Stephen Kendrick, ministers at Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia have produced a miracle. From the team that brought you Facing the Giants, Alex and Stephen wrote, produced, and directed the movie Fireproof, which was shot on a $500,000 (yes you read that right) budget. Using an all-volunteer cast, donated sets… Continue

Start a Basic Filing System

Financial tip of the day

Start a Basic Filing System

There is a lot of financial information that needs to be organized and processed, and a simple filing system can make this less of a chore. You can essentially break down all of your financial papers into the following categories:

• Bills due

• Important documents to keep

• Items to throw away or shred

It really is that simple. Either you have a bill that needs to be paid, a receipt or… Continue

From Focus on the Family

This is a great story about a father who came to Christ later in life, and then went into ministry. I don't recall the mans name, but I heard him share his testimony on Focus a number of years ago. If you know who I'm talking about, please let me know!

He had been so busy providing for his family that he excluded himself from their daily life. Here's what happened later.

His wife and children would attend church without him, usually. They lived a pleasant life, but he… Continue

Get a life...or a "Second Life", or a third or fourth.....

Virtual Worlds. They are here and people are flocking to them. During a seminar of the local American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) Dr. Kurt Steuck (Educational Psychology) opened up the world of "Second Life" to the attendees.

Many people believe that this simulated world is just for the kids-at-heart, people playing games and/or an escape while wasting time. Well, with computing power and transmission speed of data becoming abundant, many are finding the power of… Continue
