Almost any small business can use advice on how to improve its collection cycle. The first line of defense against late payments is a complete invoice. Your bills should be accurate, detailed and easy to understand. If difficult to understand, then your client will need to call for additional information. That translates into "you have been added to their to-do list," which increases the time of your collection cycle. Include on each invoice:
- Your company's contact information:… Continue

Hello, my name is Lindsay and I am a professional bookkeeper. I help businesses by keeping track of what a business buys, sells, owns & owes. More simply I keep an updated record of the money that comes into a business, the money that goes out & what's left over afterwards. I've been keeping businesses' finances in order for 11 years. My clients are business owners who are busy enough that they lack the time to concentrate on their finances & invoicing but are also small enough to… Continue

Building Self Confidence
Two obstacles that I have faced throughout my life are fear of failure and the lack of self-confidence to face up to my fear. For most of my life, when fear would bubble up in my chest, I would say to myself, "Don't be afraid. You have nothing to fear. You will get through this."
Those words helped a little bit, but they were not a good long term solution because every time the fear of failure arose, I would have to silently chant those words over… Continue

You have been blessed far more than you realize. You are uniquely gifted and equipped to make a positive impact in this world. Your Creator has plans for you that far exceed anything you could ever imagine.
Refuse to be like the majority of people who seem to spend most of their time and energy complaining about what they don't have and making excuses for why they haven't accomplished what they have desired to accomplished. Do not buy into the lie that being like everyone else is… Continue

Here are the three areas of your life that I feel you need to constantly train to be the best you can be.
1. Spiritual Life
The success you have in your life will depend on your reliance and strength that comes from the One who created your life. I have to admit, for years I was not great at making this a huge priority in my life. I call myself a Christian but would neglect spending time learning and growing in Christ.
Through a series of events in my life, I have… Continue

I was talking with a close friend today about the fear folks have in knowing the truth about something. Not truth about just anything -- like our hair is turning gray or our dog just isn't as bright as we like to think -- but rather truth that matters. You know, the painful kind.… Continue

Imagine my shock when I saw an email from Darren Hardy, editor of Success Magazine
in my inbox. This can only be good news. Success Magazine is one of my favorite reads; it's bursting with encouragement and helpful teachings from some of the leading Zig Ziglar's of the world.
But back to the email. I've once again started trolling around for paying magazine gigs. And since the… Continue

I watched 20/20 and it was about the authors of "Freakonomics" and some of the questions they posed and or possible solutions. One subject was about global warming. Here are my questions in response to that.
If The U.S. and other industrrialized countries cut down on their emissions how does it help if other less developed countries continue to release these gases? How long have cows been on the planet? When did cow flatulence become a danger to the environment? How did we go from an… Continue

Malcolm Gladwell's book Outliers discusses the 10,000 hour rule. In a nutshell, those individuals that succeed (Bill Gates, The Beatles, et. al) do so because they have invested the magic number of 10,000 hours to hone their abilities. As we look at this hypothesis, the question is, "does this apply to teachers and educators?" I believe the answer is YES!
By my calculations, on a 187-day contract, working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the minimum that a teacher would work during the year… Continue

Many people want to be leaders and world changers. Entire libraries of books exist on the subject and people like Zig Ziglar and Stephen Covey have made great livings helping others become effective leaders.
If you want to be a great leader there are many things you could do, but without a doubt, there is one thing you must
do to move beyond normal. It stands to reason that if you cannot manage yourself you’ll never be a great leader. To that… Continue

Well economists say that the recession of 2009 is officially over but where are all of the jobs the “Administration” promised? Hundreds of billions of dollars in tax payer money has yet to trickle down to the masses. So, what do you do now?
I believe that many of the jobs that have been cut may not return. Especially the jobs cut by the larger enterprise companies. They have seen the job cuts as efficiency and getting the costs down. Many companies have outsourced a lot of these jobs… Continue

I love mornings. I truly believe God created the sunrise for people to enjoy and to remember who it is that made the beauty of each day. The one thing I have a hard time doing in the mornings is exercising. For some reason my body loves to wake up early but it has never had the motivation to do anything once it was up but watch T.V. and read the paper.
Winter had finally broken and spring in Nebraska was on the verge of taking over another year. Susan and I had taken our bikes to the… Continue

Suicide is a complex issue. We need a comprehensive approach aimed at prevention.
I found some interesting facts about suicide in Texas at www.texassuicideprevention.org
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for Texans and the third leading cause of death among youth ages fifteen to twenty-four.
In 2003, on average, slightly more than six Texans died from suicide each… Continue

I was at the mall yesterday with my family when I stumbled upon a 'Hurricane Simulator'. You pay two bucks, step inside and then you feel the force of 78 M.P.H. winds for about a minute. A small T.V. screen displays the wind speed as it increases and decreases.
I just HAD to try it myself. After the minute was over I could not believe I had just paid two dollars to feel wind. I live seven miles from Lake Superior and there is always a… Continue
