5 Keys to Conquering Fear

Last week I had to confront a fear of mine. Not a life-long fear, just something I’ve never done before. I had to have a minor surgery. I’ve had oral surgery before which, frankly, was far worse. But this time I had to have a small cyst removed from my head (behind my right ear). I don’t know about you, but I’m not keen on having someone take a sharp knife and start slicing at my head. I’m generally not inclined to sit still and let them. Still, I’ve wanted to have this cyst removed for…

Goals review

It is six months into the year. So how am I doing on reaching my goals for the year?

Physically I have run three races whereas my written goal is to have completed four races by the end of the year. But I have been exercising five days per week.  Spiritually I continue to have my devotional time, attend and participate at church, and I have found two groups to fellowship with regularly. Financially I have some lofty goals that for the most part are still waiting to be reached but are…

Why Not Go For Great?

Will You Be Great?

I am a firm believer that we get one spin on this merry go round. You live one life, and most people will drift of into the realm of lethargy and anonymity in their life. I’m not saying that you need to be a world shaker, and that a quiet life is to be looked down on.

What I am saying is this,…

My Un-Resume: Avoiding Reference Checks

Brett was stealing from the company.  Primarily, he was stealing his salary because he rarely worked a full day.  However, I even found out after I fired him that he was also using his company credit card for personal household purchases!

In the interview Brett was great.  He had a great resume and was a former college athlete.  He was funny and people were drawn to him.  He had all the tools to be successful. But, the truth was I hired a dud, and it was my fault.  I didn't do…

Glade's Drive Inn: One of Utah's Best?

In Spanish Fork, Utah, there is a old-school Drive Inn which serves greasy burgers, fries, shakes, dogs. I remember going there in College for a Friend's birthday. Supposedly they had good fry sauce (something unique to Utah). The 110 mile round trip was a little much for food which I felt was mediocre.

Fast forward 10 years. We were going on a road trip to Southern Utah and decided to stop in at Glade's. The atmosphere is perfect: small town, roadside stand. I thought that maybe I…

Had a bad day? What to do...

How to deal with a bad day.

No matter how optimistic and positive you are, you're going to have bad days. We all do. They are necessary. If you didn't have bad days for contrast, what would make the good days good?

My most recent day of "less than productive activity" was a perfect example. It started with the second flat tire in two days. That fun quickly rolled into a…

Synergistic Dreams

It’s funny how when you finally take action upon a dream of your own you’ll start to discover the dreams of the people around you.  For instance, I discovered that two other friends of mine dreamt of a photography career.  Answers to the “dream” question from other friends would range from writing, to test riding snowmobiles, to opening an ice cream shop.  All of these are achievable.  The seed is planted and now it is time to allow it to grow.  With a little love, hard work, and a bearing…

The Cancer at Work

It seems to spread.  The longer it hangs around, the worse it gets and the harder it is to get rid of.  It’s a progressive “cancer” at work.  It’s the Blame Game.

It is real and probably trying to creep into your workplace or may already have a stronghold.  So often, issues at…

Stir it up!

One of my co-workers loves to cook. I always tell her to "KEEP STIRRING". Recently, I walked into her office and she had two cooking magazines open on her desk. I just shook my head and laughed, as she said, "I love cookbooks."
