Take Charge of Your House

"Any business or industry that pays equal rewards to its goof-off and its eager beavers sooner or later will find itself with more goof-offs than eager beavers.”

Apathetic America

Apathetic America

Health and fitness are two topics that people generally feel one of two ways about (there are always exceptions!). They are either completely apathetic or they are very enthusiastic about it. I know some of you will tell me there is a third…

How to Listen to Your Website Visitors, Customers or Readers

I recently came across a free tool that allows my WordPress website and blog visitors to send a voice mail directly from the site without having to look for my toll free number and pick up the phone.  Called SpeakPipe, it is currently in BETA and is free. You can see it in action at the top of this page and on all of my websites.

Depending on which site you are visiting, either I or one of my assistants will get an email that tells…

The Metamorphisis of Coaching

Last night I was reminded of a very important aspect of coaching - as a coach my role is to learn together with the participant. The lesson was brought about by my 8-year-old daughter, Abbie, who is learning to ride a bike.

Abbie is older than probably the average age of bike rider. So there was some social pressure for her to be able to ride, but more importantly, our family has a routine of going to the park during the summer mornings and Abbie being able to ride sans training…

Technology in the Classroom

After reading Seth Godin's book Stop Stealing Dreams earlier this year, I re-evaluated how I was teaching my 8th grade English students. I immediately began to encourage my students to use phones and other smart devices in class. Then I met Evernote.

The rest of the semester was devoted to using Evernote in class and teaching my students how to use it to become more organized, more efficient, and more productive. The results were astounding.

Now that the summer is…

Be careful little eyes what you see

This childhood Bible song came to mind this morning as I was meditating on God's Word and talking to Him about this new chapter in my life. He reminded me how important it is to keep our eyes focused on the right things because we tend to become like what we consistently look at.

There are four additional verses in this song admonishing our ears, hands, feet and mouth. What you listen to (both externally & internally), what you do, where you go and what you say, all have a significant… Continue

Decluttering

In my business of a Professional Stager the biggest obstacle is getting people to "declutter".  Once you start, you'll  realize how "free" you feel without all the "stuff" around you.  Decluttering your house and surroundings actually declutters your mine and gives you the freedom to do anything you want instead of just cleaning "stuff".  Try it.  Start with just a corner of a room or even the top of a dresser or dining room table.  It feels good.…

What is holding you back?

This morning I went to get in the ocean after getting very hot out in the sun. I was reminded that each time I venture out into the ocean it is always cold at first touch. It is a shock to the system and causes hesitation at the outset.

When getting into a pool I prefer to jump in and get…

When to pause...

Today I was reminded of an important lesson that goes against the typical “work till you drop” mentality prevalent in many companies today.  It’s the concept of when to pause.  When to step back from the norm and think about the best way to proceed with changes that may be coming ahead.  It seems that many companies are so focused on the bottom line that they forget about the need to plan for setbacks and delays.  Trying to cram more things into a system that is already clogged will lead to…

Getting Used to my New Normal

So, a little over a month ago my dad went to heaven in his sleep. Since that day me and my family have been getting used to a new normal. Life as I knew it for 29 years was no more. Every day normal activities are no longer normal. My routine is no longer routine. Everything has been undone. I am faced with a choice. What am I going to do with this new normal?

When I can step out of myself and look past my current perspective I realize that it is somehow a good thing. It is a good…

To Be Uncontainable

To listen to the audio of this blog you can Click Here!

It’s kind of hard to see much life sitting behind a two-inch thick cubicle wall and a blaring florescent white light. Many of you know what I’m talking about.

If you’ve been in a cube farm there’s always talk about how much life sucks, how the company doesn’t care about you, and that they’re going to be bought out and…

Project X Test Problem Solving

Optimists see life as full of opportunity while pessimist see the same life as full of problems. Optimist’s cups are half full vs. pessimists cups being half empty. Heard that before? I have, and it is an important first step. Positioning your attitude is a critical first step in any process.

Then what? Is it all happy time from there? Will everyone be throwing palms in your path just because you have a good attitude. Don’t get me wrong, it helps. It really is a good first step that…
