Outsource your own job?

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 4:32am 0 Comments

A friend posted a link to this article on Facebook:  Man outsources his own job to China, watches cat videos.

You'll have to read it to get the full picture, but it makes me wonder if there is something to learn from it.  Either way, I hope you get a good laugh out of it.

Conservation of Energy

Posted on January 3, 2013 at 5:15am 3 Comments

Life is full of paradoxes. I find that I am constantly trying to conserve energy. You never know when you're going to need it, right? I tell myself that I can't do whatever current thing there is to do because then I might be to tired to do something else later. When it comes time to do that something else, I tell myself I had better not because I'll be too tired to do the next thing.…

Practicing your Art

Posted on December 6, 2012 at 5:26am 4 Comments

When we are kids, we're all artists.  As we grow up, something happens that changes that.  Many (most) of us lose our concept of art.  Is art the finger painting on the refrigerator?  Is art the Lego structure on the living room floor?  Is art the bouquet of flowers you picked from the garden? Is art last night's dinner?  Is art the thing you enjoy doing and others enjoy seeing?  Yes!

We're surrounded by art every day and yet we don't notice it and we surely don't practice it…

Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 4:50am 2 Comments

This is not a political post.  This is a take control of your own life post.  I'm tired of hearing people complain about how they are going to be affected by who is in office or how they dodged a bullet by who's not in office.  I can't think of any single event brought on by government at any level that changed my life significantly.

I'm not saying government doesn't have power.  They do, but only as much as we give them.  Remember, the people that produced the Holocaust were…

Be Selfish at 5AM

Posted on October 17, 2012 at 4:47am 12 Comments

I published this post on my blog (http://www.backyardlifeblog.com) and thought it would be appropriate to repost here.  What are your thoughts?

Being selfish at 5am is an important concept to those hustling on their dream.  Selfishness always sounds negative, but hear me out on this one.

What does it mean to be selfish at 5am?

Get up early every day to put in focused time to get things done.  Most people have more energy at…

Hi Raun, I see you're familiar with Drupal. I just started a new group called Doing Drupal Websites. I invite you to join us at http://48days.net/group/drupal.

Raun, welcome to the Embracing Introvertedness group. I see that you and I have lots in common. I checked out your blog and might just have to start following it. I, like you, am stuck with the "I could do anything and be happy." The only thing that really fires me up is doing a great job no matter what I do. You might want to consider the Susan Cain book discussion. There's a lot in the book about playing to our strengths. We'll be starting after the 4th of July, if you're interested. Glad to have you in the group.

Raun,

Yes, the birdhouses are very original and unique. It was just a hobby my husband started last year to fill the time. We tried to make a go of it and invested a lot of time, effort and money to promote and sell the birdhouses online and at art fairs, but we got discouraged as they weren't selling as good as we'd hoped.

Since then a lot has changed. Jim is no longer making new birdhouses and we're just going to sell the ones we have. He is now working full time and doesn't have the time or desire to make anymore birdhouses. It was fun while it lasted though! Thanks for asking.
