Hello 48 days community! I just joined this past weekend after finishing Dan's book. A little bit of background: I have always had the ultimate dream of becoming a full-time fiction writer, primarily…Continue

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I started reading "48 Days to the Work You Love" back in March and am now in the final week of the book's program. By my participation in this community, I hope to gain a valuable network for mutual support and counsel as we help each other explore our own "acres of diamonds" - particularly those of us who, like myself, are completely new to life as an entrepreneur.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
At this time, I am employed full-time as an Operations Specialist at Great Western Bank. In October, I self-published a novel which has sold about thirty units so far and for which I maintain a blog (currently on hold as I finish the 48 days program), but I have not yet turned a profit at this point.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
My ultimate dream is to become a full-time novelist, with an emphasis on the science fiction, fantasy and thriller genres. My long-term project is the creation of a complete fictional universe along the lines of the Stars Wars and Star Trek franchises, which would serve as the backdrop for multiple series, trilogies, short stories, and stand-alone novels. I envision combining the epic grandeur of classic space opera with the real-world imminence of the modern technothriller (my models being Tom Clancy and Dean Koontz). In writing it, I would use my faith as well as my passion for history and classical literature as inspiration, crafting storylines that feature powerful themes of Good and Evil as well as meditations on divine providence in human history.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
My wife and I both hope to raise a sizable family (at this time we have a one-year-old son as well as another child on the way). I hope someday that we can both purchase and/or build our dream house in which this family can grow.

I also hope to become more active my church's activities and take a direct role in organizing events/projects. One half-formed idea I have at this time is organizing a book club/discussion group.

I would further like to improve my family's financial situation to the point where we can have a significant travel budget. Someday I would like to travel overseas, with possible destinations being Europe, Israel, Africa, Australia and Japan.

I would also like to take an active part in the space advocacy movement, perhaps as an article writer, event organizer or speaker. Once my budget allows it, I intend to become a full member of the Mars Society.
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
My strongest talents would be in writing, creativity and unique command of the English language. I have also been told that I have an excellent speaking voice. I like being able to immerse myself in a book, subject or project that interests me, spending hours at a time reading, writing or researching. I'm a dreamer by nature and love any opportunity to use my imagination to its fullest extent, primarily expressing this in the creation of stories, characters and entire worlds. If I could bring these talents to bear at their full potential, I believe that I could awaken the dreams of those around me so that they could build the world of tomorrow.
Do you have a website presence anywhere?
Are you interested in finding a better job, starting a business, growing your current business, writing a book, blogging, podcasting, coaching, speaking, sales & marketing, or something else?
After looking over Dan's list of 48 Low-Cost Business ideas, I was immediately drawn the example of Jim Hodges, whose full-time business is producing audio-recordings of public domain history books (primarily the G.A. Henty novels) and selling them to homeschoolers and other educational groups. With my own love of classical literature and history, I envision doing something similar, producing audio-recordings of classical works such as Paradise Lost, Pilgrim's Progress, the Divine Comedy, The Illiad & Odyssey, etc. My goal is to combine this with my Author Platform, promoting my original novels alongside my audio-recordings on a single website.

I would also maintain an associated blog, podcast and YouTube channel. For each new recording I produced, I would have a short blog post and a topical podcast which would be re-purposed as a YouTube clip in slideshow format. I could then also use my notes from the podcast as the basis of a "study guide" that can be sold and used alongside the audio-recording. As this business grows, I can also branch out into providing reviews (and perhaps editing services) to self-published authors in the Christian speculative fiction genres, featuring some in direct interviews on my podcast.
If you have a product or service to promote (now or in the near future) this is your shot to state it! Say all you'd like:
My business is still in the planning stages right now as I compile a "shopping list" of necessary software, equipment and materials. But my vision is for a website under the brand name "Empyrean Voyager", with the following tagline: "The Past. The Future. Eternity." It would be dedicated to my novels, audio-recordings, and topical blogging/discussion on the intersection of Faith, History, and Imagination.
