"Paul and et. al.,
I'm kind of surprised at the response from folks; especially the successful podcast pros. at this question. Correct me if I'm wrong but so far I've heard:
Put it out there (myself not good)
"I love that you compared your total downloads to your hometown population. That was great! I also appreciate your thoughtfulness in laying out how you approached this subject. This post has lead to some great insights from some vet pod dudes. Love…"
"You see, that is my point. I get that you are way down the road. A seasoned content guy/gal uses a different measuring stick to see if he/she is successful. The thing is, you are still glued to your stats. Every business has to measure. You look at…"
"You should come to New Media Expo. Dave Jackson, Ray Ortega, and I will present a session about this very topic. If you can go, or even just buy the virtual ticket, use my promo code "DANIEL20" to save 20% off any registration."
"This is going to sound weird. I've been doing this since 2005 and I don't check my stats. Maybe once a month? I would do my podcast for free. I spend my time making good content. In the same way that if a person who wants to lose weight…"
"Tell people I know, have links to my podcast and website in my e-mail signature, etc. Basic ways put the podcast out there listed on the various places itunes, Stitcher, Zune, etc.
I'm not saying I have tons of subscribers hardly, but…"
"Do you see promotion as spam?
I use to listen to a show on webmaster radio, and I loved the commercials as they fit me- their audience. Its not spam if you found your audience. They will be happy they found your show. But to know they are your…"
"David, thanks for the response. I think you are right. Most of growth is word of mouth. I think quality is a huge ingredient to success. I've been able to listen in on some interesting conversations about quality. The feedback from others was…"
"Glad I asked then Kent. I think most approaches are pretty passive. In fact, I read a comment on this forum where someone was bemoaning the fact that their audience was small. The response was he should be thankful and that many pastors out there…"

Good to hear from you Paul! Money-wise I make my living by looking after my grandmother. So basically, I'm a caretaker. I'm also learning the ropes to blogging and currently manage three different blogs. One blog is devoted to my art and pet projects, and the other two are my cartoon sites. I read a few of Dan Miller's articles which brought to my awareness of his 48 Days newsletter. And from the newsletter I learned about this community. And I like this 48 Days bunch as they, like me, are learning and trying new and novel ways of make themselves useful to society and making a rewarding career for themselves at the same time. As for me, I'm focusing on my cartooning and seeing where my talents and ambition will ultimately take me.
PS Also, in case you're interested, I offer a free e-resource entitled Goal-Setting That Actually Works! to those who join the Make The Move email community (also free). I think you'll get a ton out of both resources.
