Formatting a Workbook so that it is interactive

I am going to be publishing a workbook, less than 10 pages, and would like to know how I might format it so that people can type in it easily.Currently, I have both Preview and Adobe Reader software applications  and though these have editing features in them, they are cumbersome.Might there be another direction I could go to make this workbook more user friendly?Thank you in advance for your suggestions-MichaelSee More

Hi Michael,

It appears that your site is still in maintenance mode. Also, if the page is in draft mode, then only you will be able to see it. I suggest publishing the page, then making it password protected if you are concerned that others will see it.  (If you are worried about the special page appearing in your menu, you may be interested in a plugin called "WP Exclude Pages" (Allows you to exclude pages from the navigation list) or simply creating a custom menu (Appearance --> Menu) that doesn't include the page you want to keep hidden.

Hope these things help.

It's almost always the easiest solution, but often times the most overlooked.

I'm happy that we were able to reach a solution!  Have a great evening!

This might sound dumb, but it is a place to start.

Mac OS has a program called 'Preview' that likes to open PDF files. Even though you have Adobe Reader X on your computer, try dragging the PDF file onto Reader (while it is open) on your dock; or right click on the PDF and choose to open it with a specific application--Adobe Reader X.

Too often, people don't realize that Mac doesn't default to opening PDFs in Adobe's software. (As a last resort, open Reader X and then in the file menu, choose 'Open' and pick the file from the list.

If all these options don't work, then I'll be happy to shoot you a archived file of all the lessons.

Hi Michael,

I looked at your site, and I have three or so comments so far:

  1. It looks as though you are using Feedburner to manage your blog subscriptions. That is great. Is your blog going to be different from your newsletter? If so, then I can understand keeping the feedburner link.

What I would recommend, however, is that most people tie their blogs and newsletters together. (i.e. Their blog posts are queued and sent out via email.) To effectively do this, I'd recommend creating a sidebar signup form that makes it obvious that they would be signing up for your newsletter and getting the ebook as a free gift. It was a little odd in my mind to click on the link like I would go to a download page and then get hit with a form for signing up.
  2. The form page is pretty 'ugly'. I have heard/read that MailChimp does not excel at form design. A simple design like this could be adapted and actually placed in your sidebar, so the visitor who wants to sign up would not leave your site (according to the address bar).  Another idea would be to use a plugin like shadowbox/lightbox to help the transition appear seamless. (To see what I mean, visit www.reflectivebiblestudy.com, scroll to the bottom, and click either yes or the signup link there.)
  3. I don't think your contact page needs to have comments enabled. It seems a little redundant.
  4. I can understand wanting to have ads on your page to get revenue, however how you have them placed seems to break the design of your site. For example, the post that you currently have on your homepage is so short that there is a big gap before your other content begins. It makes the page as a whole look cheesy.

I'm not sure how much you have made with the ads, but the site design would look a lot cleaner without it.

Hope this helps.

Hey Michael,

I saw you just joined the Wordpress Website Group and had a question.  I don't have an answer but some encouragement.  Way to get in the game and start trying to make something happen.  That website presence of "http://no" will soon turn into something with your personal brand.  It took me a while to finally get out there and get my two websites up www.5fprep.com and www.1stepcoach.com.  PS- I did get some professional help though.  Good luck!
