Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I instigated the creation of 48Days.net! I hope to walk alongside as many people as possible toward their free agency.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Full-time self-employed.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
To reach more people and have the honor of making their ideas viable realities. To be a voice that communicates real truth on how to become self-employed...not just generate a big audience on the hype of it.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
Working to lead my family more authentically and effectively in our faith. I'm a lifetime athlete so always have some pursuit I'm chasing to be 'weller'!
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
Communicating Core Values. Everyone is trying to communicate to the world with who they are, what their message is, whether it's personal, business or values. Yet few do it effectively. My passion and burden is for valuable messages to be positioned and communicated in a way that they are heard by the exact people who need to hear them.
Do you have a website presence anywhere?
Are you interested in finding a better job, starting a business, growing your current business, writing a book, blogging, podcasting, coaching, speaking, sales & marketing, or something else?
If you have a product or service to promote (now or in the near future) this is your shot to state it! Say all you'd like:
Anyone who is really serious about building a business should be getting consitant mentoring and counsel. I've never seen a better opportunity than what we provide at Free Agent Academy with our live, weekly TeleClasses where you can actually interact with the leaders

What if you invented the cure for cancer, or developed a phone that was better and cheaper than the iPhone? Would it matter if you had nobody who would listen to you?

NO. It would not.

The truth is...you DO have a brand

- "Stand for something, or stand for nothing."

- "Attract or repel people."

- "If you're not known for something, then...you're not known."

- "Niching doesn't come naturally." (from my recent blog "Why Niching Isn't Natural Anymore")

All true statements.

However, here is another statement:

"You have a brand, whether you know it or not. Or want it."

Why 'niching' isn't natural anymore

Posted on May 1, 2009 at 2:48pm 5 Comments

First, give me a room of 100 self-employed people. The one's who have a discernible, branded niche are having more success, hands down. Even if they aren't the best providers. Even if their niche was accidental (I've seen it happen many times).

The rest of the folks in the room may be brilliant at what they do...experts. But they are in survival mode or about to be one of the next business start-up failures because they haven't separated themselves out.

Why is it so rare… Continue

Knowing your place in the world...of work

"Do you know what the scariest thing is? To not know your place in this world. To not know why you're here. That's...just an awful feeling."

- 'Mr. Glass' in the movie Unbreakable

As an employee you can spend your lifetime being told where your place is in your work. We're born, bred and educated to get a job. To fulfill a role. When was the last time you heard someone exclaim with joy, pride and gratefulness, "I come alive at my work!" Maybe here and there, but seldom. I have… Continue

My plan is to initially focus on a BtoB niche, but eventually evolve into BotC

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your note. I plan to spend some time on the site to find the most appropriate group when I get the chance. So far, I've only been able to make a cursory look. There is a lot of activity here!

You mentioned that I need to define specifically where I am in the process and what I need. In some ways I have a very clear picture of this, but in others things are more murky. As I mentioned in my profile, I want to develop a technology platform that has big impact potential. I won't go into detail here but I will say that the technological nuts an bolts have been very thoroughly considered. I have a short range strategy for developing a product and a long range strategy for evolving the technology into something that is of global scale. I've thoroughly researched all the necessary steps and personally performed many of them. The concept is an offshoot of the field that I've worked in for 30 years.

Where I am stuck is in how to take this concept and turn it into a business. Like most businesses, it will require money to start, of which I do not have. The venture capital route that many technology companies take is not appealing to me, but I can't rule it out because it sometimes works. I would prefer more of a bootstrapping approach to growing the business, but this type of technology does not lend itself to starting from ground zero. During the past year I have applied for an investment from a private foundation, which required me to lay out my plans in detail. They declined, but the process was very helpful for defining my strategy and developing a budget. One pleasant surprise that came from the budget exercise was the realization that the project would require less money than I had thought. Unfortunately, the amount is still more than I know how to raise.

I hope this summary gives you an idea of my situation. I'm not really sure if anyone can help me find a solution, or if a solution even exist. But I have to keep looking. The technology that I envision will benefit not just me, but humanity as a whole. I know this may sound over the top, but many of the modern technologies around us today would have sounded over the top before they became a reality.

Thank you for your interest. I would welcome any suggestions you may have about how to best utilize the site.

Best regards.

David Hyatt

Thought you'd like to know: My consulting biz is doing well - have picked up several new clients, and working with them to assist in their branding, website development, fundraising appeals, grant requests, etc. Still plenty of freelance writing opportunities as well, but only 24 hours in a day! Completely flexible work/lifestyle, so great with our children and their activity schedules, too. I am content, and the possibilities still in front of me are amazing. Dave and I have several joint income streams as well - living the "multiple streams of income" lifestyle has been very liberating and joyful!

Getting back on the horse, so to speak, after a bit of a hiatus. I need to step it up and find out what I need to do when I 'grow-up.' Listen to some of the Free Agent stuff; Have read your dad's stuff. The real thing I am struggling with is, "What am I wired to do? What am I really good at? What will keep me charging at late at night and early in the morning?"
Currently, a General Manager at a heavy Mfg company, but want more! Tired of working to others agendas; Need to work to God's agenda.

Any suggestions, as to where to start, in order to find my passion?
