Your place for community & resources to find or create work you love

We are so glad you're here and ready to take the next step! We created 48days.net as a place for community. For people to encourage each other and help each other in finding or creating work that is meaningful.

But frankly, we've outgrown it, so we're moving to provide you new resources.

48Days.net will be closing as it is today on November 30, 2017. Until then current members can click the button below to access groups and resources.

If you're new to 48days.net, connect here for a close up look at our thriving 48 Days Eagles Community and to get weekly free resources and motivation as you find and create work you love.

Profile Information

How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
I heard about it from a friend. I am hoping to learn how to become a professional public speaker/motivational trainer. As a teacher/college professor for 20+ years, I have a lot of speaking experience, but I am ready to transition to something more meaningful than showing students how to solve quadratic equations! :-)
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am a college math instructor at a state university.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
I love helping people to develop professionally. I love teaching and want to help people to reach their fullest potential.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I used to weigh more than 360 pounds...I am currently at 290, halfway to my goal of 220. In a society threatened by the epidemic of obesity, I want to motivate people to make practical, incremental lifestyle changes that will improve their health and add years to their lives. I'm just a regular guy, and I want to show others that, if I can change my life, ANYONE can!!!
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I have strong relational skills. I connect easily with people, and often find myself providing advice/counseling to my students, other faculty, and administrators. I am an excellent teacher, having won several campus-wide teaching awards-definitely an accomplishment for a math teacher. :-)

I have entertained the idea of being a stand-up comedian. I love to make people laugh, and I enjoy sharing the humor of my life with my wife Kate and our 8 kids. I like to tell people that we are the "Jon and Kate-plus 8" who are still happily married! Yes, my wife is named Kate, and YES, we DO have 8 kids!!!

In the classic film, A League of Their Own, Manager Jimmy Dugan, a washed up, alcoholic, former major leaguer, is hired to manage a traveling women’s baseball team during World War Two. At the height of the movie, Dugan, played by Oscar-winner Tom Hanks, explodes on his right fielder for making a bad throw. She responds by bursting into tears, eliciting Dugan's now famous rant: “ARE YOU…

Am I Failing at Humility?

Posted on July 16, 2012 at 11:50am 2 Comments

If you’re good at something and you know it, is it tacky to acknowledge it?

I’m not suggesting that you display a lack of humility, bragging about your abilities. That is clearly poor form.

But if you have struggled with self-esteem issues most of your life-if you have honestly felt like you weren’t good at…

My Quest for Mental Toughness

Posted on July 13, 2012 at 5:50pm 2 Comments

Vince Lombardi, Hall of Fame coach of the Green Bay Packers, defined Mental Toughness as “sacrifice and self-denial combined with a perfectly disciplined will that refuses to give in. It’s a state of mind – you could call it ‘character in action.’”

I know many who fit this definition. Among them are cancer…

Jon I had a great time connecting with you. I look forward to seeing how the voice/hearing idea solidifies.

Something I just thought of... Could you play off the popularity of the show "The Voice"?

Maybe something like "The One Voice - who you hear matters..." just some more brainstorms. :)

Jon, thanks for the friend invite. Wow, 8 kids and a awesome wife - you have the world by the tail. That is simply spectacular!

Looking forward to connecting with you as it sounds like our paths are similar in some ways.
