How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
"48 Days to the Work YOu Love" was discussed on the Dave Ramsey radio show on my local radio station. The book confirmed what I have suspected since I was laid off in May of 2010 ---- I need to be self employed!
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
Sort of employed. I was unemployed for 19 months. I applied for over 120 positions, all of which I was very qualified for. I had one really great interview with a local university hospital, was "that close" to being hired, and the state "de-funded" the position. The state unemployment office assigned me a Special Employment Counselor because I was someone they deemed 'difficult to hire. I was 62 years old, a female with a Master's Degree from the Business school of a very prestigious local private university. The Counselor told me that even though it is illegal, there is still a lot of age descrimination in hiring. His own wife, in a similar position as myself, had been unemployed even longer than I. My first thought was that if he can't even find a job for his wife, what chance did I have?! My immediate second thought was that I need to be self employed! Currently under employed about 30 hrs a week for a paltry salary, trying to figure out my next steps.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
I want to have more than one stream of income. I love to take photographs, and have a very good eye for composition, color, etc, have had a lot of art classes throughout my life, but have no formal training in photography, and do not own a really good camera. I also love, love, love to travel to foreign countries and journal about my experiences with people and cultures other than my own. I can easily see myself as a travel writer / photographer. I am passionate about high quality handcrafted objects and art from around the world. I see things all the time I think would sell well, and have thought I might like to have a small import / export business I can run on my own as I travel. I also have a background in real estate, both sales and investing. I want to be able to acquire a few modest pieces of real estate to generate a residual income. Within that field, I'd like to be able to provide good, clean, safe housing for people with disabilities who can live independently.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I have general good health, but need to lose a lot of weight. I have a plan in place, and will be shopping for all the right foods this weekend and clearing out any remaining "inappropriate items" in my kitchen. Due to some mobility issues, I cannot participate in a traditional exercise or gym program, but with a background in teaching physical education and yoga many years ago, I have designed a program I can physically handle at this stage of my life. Hmmmmm....... I wonder if that is something I can provide for other folks in my same situation?!!?
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I'm a cracker-jack administrator, but I don't enjoy the work. I have lots of really creative ideas. I get along with all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds. I'm great at asking lots of questions-- a really good interviewer. People seem to feel really comfortable talking to me, and often start telling me all kinds of personal information even when I don't ask. That's been happening my whole life, people confiding in me and asking for advice. I am an information hog. I read voraciously, seem to easily acquire information from all kinds of places, and am intensely curious about many seemingly disparate topics. I'm interested in so many different things that sometimes I wonder if it's a serious fault that keeps me from concentrating on just one or two things.

Hi Jo and welcome to the Wealth Building Group! I am amazed at your skills and abilities and of the experience you bring from your work life. I hope you enjoy the Real Estate group and that you take a few minutes to check out some of the discussions. I just started a discussion on "Vision"; make sure to share your insights with that one. I also know that real estate will provide you a nice income stream and the many discussions should bring you some clarity and direction to get started. If I can help you in any way please let me know. I have family in San Antonio and I know that Texas has some great real estate markets. Look forward to hearing more from you.
I try to take time each week to welcome new members to 48Days.Net. So, let me say "welcome" to you! I know you will find this to be a great site filled with people who are experiencing true success in both life and work.
Also, I'd like to point out that one of the best places to connect with other liked-minded people here is in the GROUPS section. There are groups for just about every interest you can think of, and if you can't find a group that interests you, you can start one. Groups are my favorite part of 48Days.Net!
Finally, if you happen to be a speaker or author (or want to become either), check out these two groups. They are two of the most popular groups on the site because of all the great conversation taking place:
