How did you hear about 48Days.NET, and what do you hope to get out of being a part of this community?
We started this 48Days.net community after watching the "social network" phenomenon for several years. I thought there was a place for an "idea network" where we could share ideas and grow our businesses together. Something more than telling people you saw a celebrity or ate at Ben & Jerry's last night.
What is your current work situation? Employee, self-employed, generating any income on your own?
I am an entrepreneur from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. Haven't had a "real job" since I was a kid.

I cringe whenever I see an elementary school textbook present a problem such as "If a quarter of a pound of ham costs $2, how much will three pounds cost?" Any child who has accompanied a parent shopping for groceries knows that things are cheaper per pound when you buy a greater quantity. As a result, though the child may eventually learn to solve such problems the way the textbook wants, the real lesson being imparted is that mathematics is a stupid, arbitrary subject having no relevance to the real world.
And then...what is your goal/dream for your work life?
I trust it doesn't come as a surprise that I am living my dream. I didn't get it all worked out at age 20 but at this point in my life I'm certainly living the life I dreamed about.

My primary work activities are writing, speaking and coaching.
How about your personal life? Any specific goals or achievements or dreams you are pursuing (or want to pursue)?
I have three incredible children -- and 9 grandchildren. Joanne and I have been married for over 43 years and keep figuring out how to make our marriage better!
What would you say are your strongest talents? How are you 'wired' and what can you offer to the world (it's OK if you don't know yet, but knowing is key to pursuing your dreams!)?
I love writing. I am a voracious reader so I am constantly getting new ideas that I want to pass on to people. In 2011 I read 78 books to continue finding principles to pass along. There is a wealth of wisdom in past writings and I want to be effective in distilling that and then making applications for today.

Dan, I'm looking for new job opportunities in order to get to a career I will love. I'm still working on becoming a published author, and love to write, but my current profession is drowning me. I'm a teacher and work 60-80 hours a week to just stay on top of everything. Being a perfectionist doesn't help. I want out. I've read your books 48Days and No More Dreaded Mondays and joined the 48Days community to connect with and find out how to live my passion. I'm not sure I've succeeded fully yet, although I did self publish a poetry collection on Amazon.com. However, because I am disgruntled and unhappy at my current job, I did come across a position I would love to try and that may give me more downtime and a chance to really write. It's an instructor position at a college level but part-time. It would have to be better than what I'm going through now, and I'm afraid I'm not brave enough to step out and do more yet with my writing career. So, I guess my long-winded question is: If I quit mid-year in my teaching job to take a position at the college, should I worry about the fine and "black mark" I will have against my name in the teaching community? I don't like being thought of badly, but I do want to break away from a job that is leaving me without time for a life outside of work and just plain miserable. Thanks for all you do!!

Dan - thanks so much for your encouraging comment on my 'Six Month Challenge' blog post. The mindset changes I am experiences are amazing and are definitely giving me an incredible amount of confidence for the upcoming months. You're right; the take aways from Brendon Burchards book alone I think are going to propel me to new heights.

Dear Dan Thank you for using my question on your podcast and answering it in such a clear manner. I really needed to hear that. I've gotten away what I love most and need to trust that when I open the door further, opportunities come. As you shared, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

Sincerely,

Jeff David

Dan, It was such an honor to finally meet you at Innov48.  I cannot put into words the degree to which my expectations were exceeded.  This event allowed me to think smaller.  Yes, that's right.  Think smaller.  Since Innov48, I finally identified and narrowed down my target market and now it seems that my ideas cannot be contained!  It's incredible!!!  There were so many layers to what we encountered at the Sanctuary and I'm still trying to unpack them all. I think the most valuable take-away is the value of relationships, both personal and professional. I love the beautiful way you have incorporated your love of business and family together.   I pray that I will learn to do the same as successfully as you have.   Thank you for the first of many great experiences with 48days.
