"This is so true!!  I was so happy to give a friend of mine a Cheer Up Box yesterday, because I know she has been having a tough Holiday Season.  I think it's easy to forget that the Holidays can actually be a difficult time for many…"

No Christmas Tree for Me! (Singing the Holiday Blues)

In my neighborhood many families go all-out with Christmas decorations. Thanksgiving leftovers are still in the refrigerator when the blow-up Santas, twinkling multi-colored lights, huge red bows, and evergreen wreaths appear on many of the trees, doors, roofs, and lawns. Tall Christmas trees are visible through…See More

3 Keys to Overcoming the Resistance to Taking Charge

You’ve decided to take charge of some problem area in your life. You’re feeling encouraged. You’re taking the first steps to gaining control of your health – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Hurray! You’re off to a great start. But I’ve got some news that may seem disappointing. As soon as you begin to take charge and make progress, the resistance will show up. It can…See More

Does God Want You to Be In Charge?

Yes. And No. And it’s getting the Yes’s and No’s mixed up that gets us into all kinds of trouble. When you try take charge of things that God has reserved for Himself you only end up frustrated. You wear yourself out, and it doesn’t work anyway. When you don’t take charge of things that God has placed in your control, you end up miserable and upset, and tempted to blame God for your…See More

"Great post Carol, that's an awesome perspective! I agree, the order in which happiness is achieved is important. Happiness first...then less stress and all the rest. If we can all take this leap of faith (and that's what it is...a leap of…"

Two Minutes to Being More Happy

People who are more happy experience 23% less stress, 39% better health, 31% more productivity, and 34% more positive social interactions. That’s the summary claim supported by several years of so-called “happiness research.” I just discovered this body of research, and it’s pretty exciting. You might think, “Of course I’d be…See More

God Help Me! I’m Broke! Prayer for Financial Help

Bring up the topic of money, and everyone has an opinion. The government should do more – or is doing too much already. “Income inequality” is the fault of greedy major corporations – or the fault of people who don’t take personal responsibility and work hard enough. God promises that His children will be rewarded with material blessings – or He is more pleased with those who give their…See More

Positive Spirituality: What’s Good for You?

Is spirituality good for you?You might expect me to claim that Christianity or, more generically, spirituality is a good thing for your health. But that’s not what I believe. And both science and God’s Word back me up on this. Now before you click “Delete” or “Back”, think of it like this. The way spirituality impacts your health isn’t unlike the way other relationships affect you. If your…See More

Tom Henricksen commented on Carol Tanksley's blog post Is One of these Character Traits Holding You Back?

Is One of these Character Traits Holding You Back?

Something in your soul says you should be farther along than you are. You see others who seem to have so much more – a stronger marriage, a better job, a larger ministry, better health, a larger platform, a more vibrant spirituality. What do they have that you don’t have? Why does it seem so much easier for them?A friend asked me that question last week, and it got me thinking.…See More

The Ministry of Presence: Being There

Sometimes you can tell somebody what they need to know. That feels good. Sometimes you can fix things for them. That often feels even better. Sometimes you can even help them grow strong enough to fix it themselves. That feels best of all.But sometimes there’s no fixing it. Nothing you do, or they do, will make things any better. In those times the best you can offer is you. It’s…See More
