"Excellent reminder, Bruce.  Let's stick to the basics, "be nice to the girl!" I love your metaphor of the "zip code of harmony"."

Back to the Basics

This post is primarily aimed toward the guys.  However, the ladies are invited in as well as my gut tells me there are parallel scenarios where the thoughts expressed may apply.Guys, are we collectively breathing a sigh of relief that the “big day” celebrated this week is now behind us? Across the gamut of presents doled out there were chocolates, flowers, cards, perfumes, dinners, and various other expressions of love given.  Heck, the price of a card these days is approaching the category of…See More

“The Dirty Dozen”. “The Dynamic Duo”. “The Triple Crown”. “The Fearsome Foursome”.  “Five Golden Rings”.  The preceding descriptions are titles used to depict mathematic groupings in pop culture or in the world of sports.  Each, in its own way, conjures up an image or tells a story. In my mind’s eye I can see a band of World War II prisoners assigned to attack a Nazi encampment in the popular movie or Batman and Robin faithfully defending Gotham City against the bad guys.  I feel the annual…See More

"What a FUN post to read Bruce! My kids and I often sing in the car (well actually it is my 13 year old daughter and I that usually do). I can't carry a tune, but we just don't care as sometimes as you describe, we just need to belt it…"

I Dare You to....SING!

Poinsettias surrounded us by the dozens.  Evergreen garland was draped from the balcony on all sides. Hundreds of white lights adorned the twenty foot Christmas tree.  The soft glow of candlelight emitted an amber radiance.  The scarlet-robed Rooke Chapel Choir and Rooke Chapel Ringers were ready not so much to perform, as they were extending an invitation for an evening of worship.  The audience was set to enjoy an evening of reflection via songs, hymns, and spiritual songs.  All of the above…See More

Intentionally Detoured

My family and I were in Pittsburgh this past weekend to celebrate my Mom’s 78th birthday.  It was nice to be in my native surroundings and to spend time with those I love.  Mom got the opportunity to meet the newest member of the family, her great granddaughter, Naomi.  No gift could be more appreciated by her.  She really enjoyed having a baby around again as the days of her own five children in the home are long gone.  However, hearing the sounds of a newborn has a way of bringing back…See More

Trees Along the Riverbank

Psalms 1Oh, the joys of those who do notfollow the advice of the wicked,or stand around with sinners,or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment.Sinners will have no place among the godly. For the…See More

Mission Possible!

This blog entry is longer than I prefer. Thanks for your patience – it was something I had to express! As a young boy in the mid-60’s, Saturday evenings at home were periodically greeted with the TV show, Mission Impossible.  The phrase, “this message will self-destruct in 5 seconds!, began the episode for the evening.  For those of you old enough to remember this, I know you are either audibly humming or mentally hearing the infamous theme song.  You may even have a picture of Peter Graves…See More
