Jim - you don't have to wait to get started. It's actually better to get started and start working with the platform you choose and then start to figure out what you need. Platforms like Posterous and Tumblr are both incredibly easy to use and completely free and you can use a custom domain with both of them for free unlike wordpress.com. Your hosting package will likely provide for you several email addresses, so you can actually set those up without having a website up! There are ways to integrate it with gmail if you want to, which is fairly common (it's what I've done).

I don't have a site built yet. I do have a domain and host. I heard that it's better to have a domain email address then a gmail one. I don't know how to access that email, and reply from it, but I did see how to set it up from my gmail account to access my domain mail in gmail. Is that what I should do?

Rob, thank you. No, I haven't put anything on paper yet. I've had myself stuck in the trying to figure things out for sooo long, and really wanted to DO something. Recently my wife and I discussed this and she prompted me with am idea. My natural inclination is to figure it all out, plan it very well, know everything I need to know, then take action. This hasn't gotten me very far in life. My wife encouraged me to take action. So here I am. Now I wonder if I should pay someone to handle an area I know nothing about. But can I afford that, and what do I need to consider in selecting someone? Oh No, feels like I'm stuck in analysis paralysis again.

Jim -welcome to the group!  Like Jonathan said, getting started is always the best first step.  Have you put together what all you'll need for your website such as pages, etc.? I've got a post coming out later today that will talk about using MindMeister to plan your site.  Let us know where you need help!

Jim.. Hey ! Great

You did something. Sometimes that is the biggest first step.

Rob does a great job on his podcast explaining some of these very things.

It is not always a good idea to try something like building websites yourself.

I am dealing with the same thing I have not bought my domain.

I am blogging and trying to build my content and then make a decision about a web site

I'm Very New to all of this. After a long struggle to figure out what I'm here for and should do in life, I've given on figuring it all out, and took the first step. My wife and I have started a home business and are trying to do whatever needs to be done. We've created a name and logo, registered it in our state, setup an gmail account and facebook page with it, and launched our announcement to all our friends. I was listening to No More Mondays (6/1/11) and Andy Traub listed the three pieces that make up a web site. So I went to GoDaddy and got our domain name, Bluehost for our hosting. Andy says wordpress for the site. I'm stuck midway in a process I know nothing about. I don't even have a good grasp of social networks. I'm on fb, but don't know all the technical things for utilizing it. So we came up with a business idea, and it wasn't building websites. But I'm spending a lot of time and energy trying to figure this out. We are bootstrapping, and don't have much to work with. So how much can and should I do from here?
