Hey Joseph,
I read "Book Yourself Solid." Strong points...great overview of everything. Weak points...not enough details of any one approach. The best thing to do is to pick 1 or 2 ideas and go deep with them. That's what I've done and it's worked well.

All and all, I highly recommend the book!

FYI...I know James Malinchak well--I've attended 3 of his boot camps. As an FYI, he'll be presenting at the Boot Camp I'm attending in Houston on January 23-25. I hope you all can attend. Again, if you want to earn income as a speaker, this will be one of the wisest investments you can make. Plus, I'm throwing in extra bonuses to make sure you walk away from the event having processed all you learn.

I got my name out there by speaking...often, for free. But I never gave things away--I'd trade it for a testimony, other program coordinators names, etc.

My advice...before jumping into an agency and/or bureau, figure out if you can do it yourself. There are all kinds of strategies and unless you have an agency that will really push you, nothing much will happen.

I am about to get into an "exclusive" contract with one organization, but they will push me to their clients. The plan is to have me speak about 15 times a year at their conferences to their audiences, then they will recommend audience members to have me "come to their place." It's a great partnership. They win and I win. However, the key is that we have developed a straight forward, solid relationship. What's more, they really champion me to their clients and I really champion their organization (I believe strongly in their mission). These types of relationships take time and intentionality.

That said, I have booked a TON more gigs in the past by simply marketing to my niche. I've learned a ton about how to do this at a couple of speaker boot camps I've attended. I keep promising to make a comment about this soon. I've been on the road, so I haven't been able to do so. I'll put some things together this weekend and post it early next week. Cool?

I welcome feedback on how to expand the speaking portion of my business. Has anyone found a good agency or bureau to represent them? My main theme of my talks is customer service.
