Last winter I decided to hold some gardening classes in order to build my customer base for my lawncare and gardening business. I made some calls and was able to schedule a whopping three classes which I had to cancel two of them due to a pinched nerve in my back and was unable to stand. So to date I have one class to look back on and learn from. Does anyone have any pointers that I would be able to use while instructing my classes? One of my goals is to be able to be scheduled for large events and what is the best way to get there? Thank you to all who answer!

I have done some business presentations for my route business and so I have a few questions for you.
Who is the narrowest target market you want to present to? Do you have the addresses or phone numbers from the attendees the time you did present? Do you offer a discount for returning class members? If they bring a friend, what recognition or "gift" will they receive? If I attended, what is the ONE main point I would take away from the presentation? What are striving to accomplish at it: to inform, to sell, or to interest in another product or service? What type of free information and "stuff" are you offering? How educated do the attendees need to be?
Hope it helps!

I'm going to ask Jeff McManus to chime in here. He's definitely had some success in this area.

Kent has been doing an great job coaching me for the last year. My career the last 24 years, has been in the high end landscape property management. I did my first "Brown Thumb to Green Thumb" Bootcamp in March this year in Oxford, Mississippi (an idea I got from watching Kent & Dan). I had 12 people there, 4 were paying customers. I do 6-12 free 1 hour classes through out the year. I use these to promote my newsletter and my Bootcamp, you can see the video for next years bootcamp on my website. http://www.plantingtogrow.com/index.php?pageID=6877. Getting the word out on the Bootcamp is the most challenging part so far. What kind of classes are you teaching now?
Permalink Reply by Jeremy Obermeyer on May 29, 2012 at 2:19pm I know alot of the people personally that I set the classes up through so sometimes I will let them pick the topic as long as I have enough notice. The one class I have done was on raised garden beds. I have not watched your video yet but am looking forward to it.
