Ok, time to stop lurking and get some input.
First, greetings from Scotland. We have about 10 days of our 5 week trip left, and we're having an amazing time.
Here's the question. I'm trying to move my gardening/homesteading blog to a coaching/learning business. My blog has been going for almost 10 years, but it's just been a hobby. I haven't tried to build a mailing list or anything. Still, I have a decent audience. Now that I'm kicking it up a bit, I want to add a YouTube Channel or a Podcast, but am undecided about the medium. A podcast would be easier, but gardening, etc. is very visual so my instincts say a YouTube Channel would be a better idea. I have podcasting experience, but video feels awkward. Your thoughts and suggestions are invited. I'd love your ideas.
Congrats for thinking along these lines with your hobby and looking to expanding it and helping people. I would almost think of it from that perspective, what would be the best way to help your audience?
My personal opinion would be that video would be the way to go. Just throwing out ideas, but you could do "how to" videos, product review videos, and possibly even short interviews with gardening/homesteading experts in your area (once you're back from Scotland of course). I just feel like there are more options open to you there.
Best of luck and hope that helps!
Hi Sam, Well if you are leaning toward visual then You Tube sounds great. I am sure if you conquered Podcasting, the other medium would develop well for you too. I am just learning Podcasting (on 25th issue), but will mess with video clips on Facebook. Maybe that is the place for you to test it out and get comfortable? Oh and I too enjoyed Scotland several years ago. Enjoy your visit, and good luck with whatever you select. I am sure you'll do well. Linda
Thanks, Linda. I'm beginning to understand Podcasting. I've had a Bible Study podcast for just about a year now. It's still a bit uneven, but we're getting there. YouTube is a bit scary to me for some reason. But I just feel that gardening is visual. On the other hand, we have a very popular call in gardening radio show here on local radio. Hmmmm.............
Thanks for the reply and advice. Will take it to heart.
Sam, I like gardening - so I would want to see you in action before hearing you. I know that almost everything I research is now all through Youtube. I love podcasts - but podcasts for me is when I'm driving or walking during lunch. Youtube will have more impact I feel for something like this, and involves more of the senses. Just my take - to start with Youtube first and then do Podcasting. Take Youtube files and make it into a podcast like Michael says above sounds like that would be the ultimate. Looking forward to seeing & hearing what you do! And I just learned something too from your question and the replies here :)
