Luke,

The very first thing I recommend in your situation is to stop using the credit cards, period...  Cut them up for good.

After that, you have several options.

First, you can do as you suggested and get a personal loan at a lower rate to pay off all the cards.  However, if you're having trouble paying much more than the minimum right now, that will only help get you a little more breathing room.

If you were to stop paying the credit cards and try to negotiate, you probably wouldn't get very far, and the interest continuing to accrue would just put you further behind.

I think your best bet is to find ways to make extra money that will allow you to pay off the debt much quicker than you are now.  I've written quite a few articles on ways to make extra money that can help.  You can find those here: http://www.cfinancialfreedom.com/resources/money-making-ideas/

Also, you may need to do a better job at managing your money.  If you're not doing a written budget every month you are wasting money because you don't have tight control over where it's all going.

I have a course available that can teach you all you need to know about how to do that, as well as how to get completely out of debt for good.  You can find out more about that here:  http://www.udemy.com/celebrating-financial-freedom

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask away, I'm always glad to help!

I have credit card debt. I pay the cards on time but I am only able to pay a little more than the minimum amount.  What is the best strategy to get out of credit card debt?

Should I get a personal loan at a lower rate and pay one consolidated payment?

0r

Should I stop paying the card company and then negotiate with the credit card company?

or

I am open to another option.

Thank you for taking the time to read this give me feedback.

Patrick,

Thanks for joining the group!  Your project sounds like a great idea.  However, even though I'm debt free I'm not a millionaire yet, so I'm not sure I could help you out.  You might consider contacting Aaron Walker.  He is in the 48 Days community and would definitely be a good interview.

I am new to the group and I am hoping some of you will help me with a book I am writing.  It is about the journey from normal to Financial Freedom using a metaphorical approach.  The working title is Millionaire by 55.  It leverages learning from Dan Miller, Dave Ramsey and others that impacted me and allowed me to become a millionaire by 55 just by following biblical principles.

The help I need is stories from real people who have done it!  I would like to sprinkle them through the book similar to vignettes in the Total Money Makeover.  Would some of you be willing to share your Millionaire stories to give hope to others?

Preached the service at my church for the first time today. My first time preaching ever! Pastor asked me to talk about giving, which is part of my area of expertise as a Christian personal finance blogger.

I'll have video of the service up in the next week or so.
