I have now watched several You Tube videos on how to create a good Word Press theme and site.  Boy, there is a great deal to it but once you set it up, it works very well!  I am now making several decisions; what logo do I use? ; what images to use?; what categories I want to use?; etc. So many decisions...I have already filled up one notebook with all I have learned and am working on a second!

I agree with Karen.  When you decide to do something.... you go for it 100%. Thanks so much for sharing your questions, goals and progress.  You are an inspiration to us all:)

Thank you to all of you have already given me great advice about starting my blog!  I have already had a coaching call, met with one person who set up her own blog for her business, and have set up meetings with two well-known bloggers in my area.  I am very excited now and hope to have my blog up and running within 2 weeks (after I meet with these other two bloggers).  Although, I am still stuck on a name.  I have been on Google's Keyword Planner to see how many people are seeking dissertation help online every day and there are at least 500,000 every day!

Great insight Karen!  Btw, I love your blog on ideas for Mother's day... just shared it on Facebook:)

Hi Colleen,

Lynne's advice is spot on, get some tech support from a local computer science student or web designer if needed on the blog setup. This can really help you move past the possible frustration of set up and start doing what you're wonderful at--writing! Lots of online help out there too. I just began blogging this spring after several years of being prodded by friends and family. Its a great way to reach out to the folks you want to help and hope to win as clients. You will rapidly become more comfortable with the whole process. It actually is scarier to anticipate snags than just jump out there and start swimming. I think your area of focus, theses and dissertations, is a great niche. My husband is a university professor and has worked with many graduate students. Organization, concise communication and thorough editing are all much needed areas of growth and attention  for most students. Even the undergraduate research papers! Oy! ESL students need a whole additional layer of guidance. A great idea might be to offer some type of research paper checklist as an opt-in for your e-mail sign up.

Best Wishes!

Great question Colleen--Check out Jonathan Milligan and his blogging program: https://members.bloggingyourpassion.com/p/bypu101
In addition I'd recommend:
1. Research any other blogs on the same topic
2. Set up your blog on Wordpress--again there are programs that can help you if you are unfamiliar with wordpress
3. Create a list of topics and an editorial calendar of when you want to blog about them
4. Take imperfect action and GO! You will learn what you need as you go. Enjoy the process:)

Dear A Called Woman Members,

I would like to start blogging on how to write--particularly theses and dissertations.  I tutor in this area and teach a practicum in this area.  Would any of you have any ideas as to how I would begin to set up a blog and start writing on this topic?
