I just got my second job, washing dishes and it is only 3 hours a day, that will not help me build the emergency fund, also a computer that I sold the lady wants her money back cause the hard drive runs hot with all the little spammy apps she has on her windows vista.

I'm broke and down in the gutters, I am trying to blog and write, and produce something that will get me out of this Hell Hole that I an in.

Any suggestions?

Great advice, I seem to shutdown on everything when I am in a panic mode, praying, reading, relaxing the whole 9 I seem to struggle to do any of it, but when I am in go mode there is never enough...I fear I may be some kind of bi-polar or something.

What you taking at UVU?  I want to go back to school and will do so as I clean up my mess here.

Yo Michael... just remember its a temporary situation.  Things will change and improve. I've been there too.

Here's a synopsis of my story.

With no money, no career, and no computer... I started my web programming career at the library.  Used the books to learn HTML and the library computers to build my first web pages.

I started on Photoshop by talking my way into a company that had a copy of Photoshop and an empty desk.  I just showed up during their business hours and they let me practice going through a book I had.

Also, with no experience... I learned to NOT enter a company through the HR department.  I actually used to call video production companies and ask to talk to the video production guys.  This was extremely helpful.  I had a list of questions to ask them how they learned to edit video.  In turn... they gave me tips and leads on other people to call.  I used to call a certain company every week, (after a few calls I found 2 or 3 people always willing to chat it up.) After a while, they were like... "Why dont you come in and help us out on a commercial we're shooting."  After 6 months there, I learned a ton of stuff, HTML, 3d Rendering, After Effects, Basic video editing, this was in the late 90's.

I started as an unpaid intern. Eventually they paid me an hourly rate.

You may ask... how did I cover my bills?  I had 2 or 3 part-time jobs.  I told them all up front I was spending time with web work.  They would let me come and go to different small web opportunities.

After 6 months, I started looking for businesses using the Internet as their main strategy.  I got hired to maintain web servers! Awww yeah! Another very helpful step.  The second company trained me to program ASP, I made a new website for them, and learned how to move data between database servers.

12 years and 100+ web projects later things are rockin in the the web world.

Just try looking at your challenges as blessings.  Maybe the current hardships are what you need to get yourself in gear, make some dedicated choices, and to start moving in the right direction.

Put yourself out there.  Call people.  Call people Call people Call people.  Ask them for advice, people are more than willing to help.  Get your verbal shtick down pat. Learn to pitch yourself and your direction.

Best of luck bro! The best stuff is ahead of you, so enjoy the ride!

Jer

Thanks I will do that, I have been on the up and up the last few days, thanks to this forum and some opportunities that I am working towards.

Michael, as you can see from all of the comments above there are so many options for you. Don't let those feelings of being scared, tired, and depressed dominant your life. The battle in your mind is going to dictate the way you succeed or do not succeed. Take time to be grateful for the things that you do have and continue to work on changing the things that you need to have change.

Thanks, that is the biggest part of the problem, is my mind, it gets so bogged down and blows everything out of proportion.  I learned about Cognitive distortions when I was writing a blog post about how detrimental my mind is in the scheme of my life.

I have totally been where you are several times. I know that it can be tough. Do what you can to the best of your ability and eventually things will improve.

Thank you, my wife and I are gonna sit down tonight and really go over our lives to see how we can improve and makes some big weighty decisions that will change it for the better, we will also be praying and trying to get the counsel of others as we do this.

I recently took a part time job bagging groceries to help pay off some debt.  I quit after 3 weeks.  I figured I was broke and miserable.  If I quit the job I would just be broke, a 50% improvement instantly.  You can always make more money but you can't make more time.  So I enjoy my time and consider myself time wealthy.

Michael,

I can help you make money if you know anyone trying to improve their health and lose weight. My full time job is helping others build their business. All you need is a phone, internet access and people you care about.

Inbox me and I will send you my phone number and I can tell you more.
