Reading the helpful things in this community has really got my creative juices flowing again. After thinking about it, I bought the domain name for www.thestorywelove.com from the wordpress blog format. I know that might not seem like much, but that is the biggest step I've ever taken. Don't bother going there yet, I haven't even posted one blog yet because I have some descisions I want to make about it. The general idea is to use the popular movies, television shows, and books that we all love to point out the craving we all have for God, the craving we have for the gospel. I love movies and good stories and I love Jesus so why not bring the two together?

My questions..

What do you think of the idea?

Should I use wordpress? Pros and Cons

Video vs. Podcasting? Thoughts. (The reason being it could get expensive on wordpress because you are only allowed so much space)

As soon as the site is up I would love some visits, comments, and suggestions.

Hi Josh
I like your idea!   I was bummed not to see your website up and hope you are still listening to following your dreams.  You could be the one person who plants a seed for someone who is far from God.

I am new to this so I apologize for not having any knowledge to share with you. Up until last week, I didn't know what a "domain" was!!  I kid you not!!  (:

While I was scared somewhat to try, I dove in and got a website up thanks to the group being so open to sharing their wisdom and knowledge.  I can't say I totally understand the lingo yet, but I have all their emails saved for reference.

You made a huge step with your note!!   Good luck!!

blessings,
Jen

I love wordpress.  It is pretty easy to use and there is tons of helpful info available for it.  I started my website on something else and switched to wordpress.  I haven't regretted it for a minutes.  As far as video vs. podcasts I am a much bigger fan of podcasts.  I listen to them on my commute every day.  Can't really watch a video while I drive so I tend to skip over videos when I'm deciding what to spend my time on.  Any second I have at home is precious and I can't waste it watching videos on the computer or on my phone.  With the popularity of ipods and iphones now podcasts are so easy to download that it is a no brainer.  I think of my commute as my education time.  I listen to tons of stuff, there are a lot of wordpress podcasts out there too.  Good luck with your endeavors.

This is a great idea! And one that I have a little experience with.  My wife and I are involved in launching a church/art gallery in Cleveland called Agape: gallery for good.  We are connecting with people from many walks of life (atheists, agnostics, and homosexuals who refuse to set foot in a "church" make up over 50% of our readership) via a very similar format.  We call ours "post from the pub," where we connect a song, movie, painting, etc, to a particular scriptural theme, and finish with a beer suggestion, (I know many Christians aversion to alcohol but the content is really changing these peoples lives).

This is a format that works great, and is a very nonthreatening way to feed people the bread of life.  We have three people doing a three week rotation so producing these is pretty easy for us. Please let me know if I can help you get some legs for this idea.  (incidentally, we are planning on self publishing these posts after our first year to help fund the gallery, thanks Dan).

our website is http://www.agapetremont.com/ if you are interested.
