in Social Work I really don't want to work in the field. I have a part time job and I want to keep it. I only work Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 hours a day. I am available to work all other days including weekends. I can work a first or third shift.
I just want a job for some extra money. I don't really want to work in sales or on the sales floor for retail. I don't want to drive or work around food either. I was thinking a third shift factory job but I really don't think that I can keep my current job and do that. I am just out of ideas on my own. I have been applying for everything.

The thing is we want to move and if we get a mortgage we need to have a stable job history. I have been at this job for 3 years and I need to keep it at least until we get a home loan.

With my background in light industrial work, clerical work and Social Work what would you suggest? I am on my second listen to 48 days. I have tried finding ways to make money at home but I am no good at selling things.

Carrie, since your are reading the48 day book, the real question should be, what are you passionate about, what have you always dreamed of doing? What do you that makes you loose track of time? How do your values come into play? What environment do you thrive in? Once you can answer some of those question, the rest may fall into place. Dream big and reach forth stars. Start by picturing where you want to be 5 years down the road, then work backward.

great question.

Carrie,

I am glad to see you on here seeking to do something that you really enjoy. I have to say, first of all, after reading your post, that you really need to do some self exploration first and determine what you really enjoy and are passionate about before you go on the job hunt. Everything you listed are things that you don't want to do rather than listing things that you are interested in. I have had over 20 jobs experiences in my life and they all taught me what I don't want to do. I couldn't do those jobs again because I know that I couldn't take to depression of doing something that was a dead end and had no connection with my calling in life.

If you simply take another "job" you will only be prolonging the process rather than taking a step in the right direction. I would suggest that you ask yourself the following questions:

• What do you love to do more than anything?
• What are you always talking about with your family and friends?
• Where do you continually find your mind drifting towards?
• What do people tell you that you should be doing?
• What can you do all day and not feel emotionally or mentally drained?
• What would you do with your time if you won the lottery? You may think you would sit on the beach all day, but even that would get old. We were created to have purpose in our lives. Ecclesiastes 3:13 says, “That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God.” NIV
Once you have identified your passion, you need to put together a plan.

Hope this helps,

Thanks I think I will start a journal for these ideas and try to get to what I really want to do. I think I am afraid that I can't do what I want to do. I know I would like to have a small farm and work on my own land in five years or so. I am not sure how that can be something I can make money doing now. Even if we were to get the house and land I would need an income until I learned how to do this work.
Hi Carrie,

There have been some great suggestions for you. Are you thinking long term for the JOB or short term solutions for your income goals? If it's short term, you really may not like the dreaded Part Time Job. If you do something from home, make sure you have Passion for it. If I were to pay you for something I want to know, can I trust you and do you meet my need. If you are looking long term, then really do "the homework" to know yourself. That will help you gain clarity. Once you have done that and still are stuck, then get with some trusted and honest friends. Get their feedback on what they see in you. That helps more than you know. Good Luck
