Are you planning on doing a book tour for your new book? Tonight I held my first event at a local coffee shop and it was a tremendous success. About 25-30 people showed up from 4-6pm. 16 books were sold at $10 a piece. Since I currently do not have a platform, I am thrilled with these results. The shop owner was very happy as well, since we packed the front end of his store with people.
There were 2 articles about my book in the local newspaper, which were excellent. However, most of the people came from Facebook. I created an event on Facebook and invited all of my local friends (several of my 48 Days friends came out as well!) I spoke about the book and played a couple songs I wrote.
Are you planning on doing a book tour or book signing? How do you plan on marketing your book?

By the way, I love your name! Sounds like a best selling author type of name. I need a cool name like that! :)

Permalink Reply by Sutton Parks on March 21, 2012 at 9:30am Thank you Mark. I'm am having some interesting experiences. A local book store wanted me to assure them they would make $250 for me to come in and sign books. I couldn't promise that so I won't be signing books there. They were nice enough to put 2 books on their shelves for sale.
Permalink Reply by Lynne Watts on March 20, 2012 at 6:55pm Sutton, a question... did you write a press release for the newspapers? Could you share more about how you got the articles in the newspapers? You have really gotten me thinking about how to do different kinds of book signings...
Permalink Reply by Sutton Parks on March 21, 2012 at 9:32am Yes, I followed a local reporter on twitter and she contacted me.
For the next article I emailed a reporter for a different local paper then dropped off a book. She read it and we set up a time to meet for an interview. Some papers haven't gotten back to me (yet).
I do need a press release and have to learn that process.

Have you considered dropping off free copies of your book to coffee shops? I'm imagining a place where they have spare reading materials for their patrons. If someone picks up your book to have something to read while they are sipping a cup of coffee, they may get interested enough to buy a copy so they can finish the story.
Have a Victorious Day!
