After reading Dan's 48 Days book and completing all the workbook assignments, I've determined that I really want to make a career change! That's the good news. The bad news is I want to enter into the custom home building industry. So while I'm excited at the propect of fulfilling my calling, this is also the worst time in the home building industry in terms of growth and hiring of new employees.
I sent out a flurry of intro letters, cover letters and resumes back in May but the responses I got back were all similar......."We're holding our own but business is flat and we're just not hiring right now". I'm planning on sending everything out again right after the election is over with the thought that this is what the market is waiting for to bust loose and start making its upward swing. And I plan to make this sales pitch in my cover letter as well.
Anyway, just wanted to get some feedback from you all and see if I'm crazy to make this career change after doing the same thing for over 22 years. All comments welcome!
Jim - it's not crazy if it's your passion. And there's never a bad time to bring that passion to life. One of the guys in my Wednesday morning group is a custom home builder. His biggest challenge during this "recession" has been trying to keep up with the demand for his services. Our success has little to do with the economy or what's happening in the White House. What really determines our success is what's happening in our house.
Be careful about "looking for a job." Just be clear on what unique contribution you can make in this industry.
